𝐚𝐥𝐦𝐨𝐬𝐭 𝐟𝐚𝐦𝐨𝐮𝐬.

the episode begins the day after brooks’ party, and everyone is dealing with the aftermath. skylar was planning on curing her hangover with brunch, but instead is facing a very annoyed phillip, who is upset that she didn’t tell him about the party and that she showed up at all.

phillip: “seriously sky, how the hell could you do this to me?”

skylar: “honestly, phillip, i had to do something! it’s like everything else on campus can get your attention without even trying and suddenly i’m the last thing on your mind.”

phillip: “because you’re acting weird! you have been since we got here. i can’t believe you’re acting like this is my fault when half the time you act like you don’t even wanna be around me.”

james watches their fight, thinking it might be time to make a move, but harper disagrees.

harper: “don’t even think about it, dude.”

james: “what do you— i wasn’t going to—”

harper: “she’s a cheerleader, with a boyfriend who could literally snap you in half with no effort. i would really like to enjoy my french toast without seeing you die this morning, so sit down.”

james: “fine, mom.”

as the week begins, everyone’s talking about the student government election that approaches at the end of the week. there’s one spot left, and both zoey and valentina are campaigning heavily to be the new representative.

zoey: “thought you’d be too busy with your ‘lecture buddy’ to run for something like this.”

valentina: “he’s actually been… kind of busy this week. anyway, i wouldn’t miss a chance to beat you out for something here.”

campaigning outside the library, valentina approaches the band, who have planned a study sesh.

valentina: “hi, i’m valentina romero, and i’m running to be your freshman class—”

cassie: “yeah, i’m gonna stop you right there, i’ve heard the spiel before. i don’t vote. especially not for something as stupid as this.” [she leaves.]

zoey: “nice job, val. you’ve got this in the bag for sure.”

valentina’s frustrated, but she receives help from an unlikely ally in the form of xavier hastings.

xavier: “listen, i’m on student government and i might be able to help you out. i can talk to some members and stuff.”

valentina: “that would actually be… really cool. thanks.”

xavier: “yeah, yeah, don’t tell anyone i did something nice. i have a reputation to uphold.”

the band heads into the library together, but cassie and lara start bickering almost immediately. fletcher, tired of listening, gets up and moves his stuff to a table farther away, which is conveniently occupied by matti.

fletcher: “um, i’m sorry to bother you but is this seat taken, or can i sit here?”

matti: “no — i mean yes — wait.” [he pauses.] “no, the seat’s not taken. and yes, you can definitely sit there.”

fletcher: “oh! uh, cool. thanks matti.”

matti: “you-you know my name?”

at the end of the episode, the student government results are announced! xavier breaks the news to the girls.

xavier: “so it was such a close vote that in the end, we decided you’d actually be working together and splitting the duties of the job. congrats.”

zoey: “you’ve got to be fucking kidding.”

the final scene of the episode, and the cliffhanger for next week, is lara sneaking out of brooks’ room: evidently she is the mystery that has been taking up so much of his time.

lara: “listen, this was a one time thing, okay?”

it’s sylly week for the freshmen of the village! brooks is trying to throw a party in their dorm to mark the occasion, but they’re met with serious resistance from phillip. they have a semi-public fight in the dining hall while eating breakfast next to james.

phillip: “the answer’s no, okay? you know i have practice the next morning. not that you would understand having to work hard for anything.” [leaves the table]

brooks: “jesus, it’s only been a week and i’m already tired of that prick.”

james: “join the goddamn club.”

across campus at bean there done that, cassie is enjoying their half-caf latte. suddenly, she receives a call from lara, who’s canceling band practice yet again.

lara: “i have other things to do. it’s not my fault, okay? god, just chill out!”

cassie: “you know what, forget it. maybe we’ll still have practice with a new lead singer!” [hangs up abruptly]

xavier is sitting in the same cafe, and decides to intervene.

xavier: “look, i couldn’t help overhearing but maybe if you paid even a little bit of attention to lara instead of fighting with her you’d know why she’s upset.”

cassie: “are you fucking joking? all we do is pay attention to her, all the time. who do you think you are, anyway?”

behind the counter, matti and harper discuss brooks’ party, which has already become a hot topic of conversation.

matti: “you’ll come, right? i really don’t wanna show up alone.”

harper: “it’s not really my scene. plus, i wasn’t exactly invited.”

matti: “if you hadn’t noticed, i just told you about the party, and invited you to it. pick you up at 9:30?”

harper: “i guess i probably should keep an eye on james… what the hell, why not?”

matti: “then it’s a date! listen, i gotta go to class, but i’ll see you later, okay?”

zoey and valentina run into each other on the way into the lab hall and their not-so-friendly competition flares up over academic schedules.

zoey: “why are you taking intro econ? you had a summer internship at goldman sachs last year.”

valentina: “well, i talked to brooks and he said he’s taking the intro, and that i should switch so we could be lecture buddies. but have fun in… molecular and cell biology, i guess!”

zoey enters her lab, where her professor informs the class that they’ll be partnered up for the rest of the semester. she turns to phillip sitting next to her, but is too late.

sorority girl: “phillip, d’you wanna switch to be my partner?”

after a quick switcheroo, phillip is surrounded by the girls of delta kappa delta and zoey is left with matti, the only other person without a partner.

zoey: “look, you’ll get a passing grade so just stay out of my way, okay?”

matti: “uh, yeah, no problem, since you terrify me already.”

by 10:30, everyone is in attendance at brooks’ party. cassie and zoey are in the midst of a spirited debate on the couch. matti is playing beer pong with xavier and brooks, and lara, of course, has migrated to an elevated surface and is dancing. harper has spent the evening in the corner, where she returns after her journey to the bar with two drinks.

harper: “figured i’d get you one too, since i have a feeling you’re also pining for someone here.”

fletcher: [laughs nervously] “thanks. feeling very gatsby standing here waiting for them to come talk to me, you know?”

harper: “i love the great gatsby. thank god i’ve finally met someone here who doesn’t wanna talk about their keg stand record.”

skylar is approached by james at the makeshift bar. they strike up a conversation, lightly flirting with each other, but the mood changes when james leans in for a kiss that is not reciprocated.

skylar: “whoa, uh—“

james: “i’m sorry if that was too fast, i just—“

skylar: “you have to stop, alright? you were a mistake, alright? i’m with phillip. i love phillip.”

james: “wow, do you need to remind yourself of that any more times?”

the episode ends on a cliffhanger when phillip arrives to the party he refused to throw, spotting his girlfriend with another guy, and brooks at the center of the festivities. and of course, he looks mad.

netflix  studios  and  the  producers  of  the  village  cordially  invite  you  to  the  season  premiere  of  the  village  !  to  be  held  at  the  historic  angelika  film  center  in  greenwich  village  on  thursday,  may  7  beginning  at  8:30  pm  est.   the  dress  code  is  semiformal,  as  it  is  a  red  carpet  event,  and  refreshments  will  be  provided.  after  the  premiere,  we’ll  be  moving  the  party  to  1oak  nightclub.  have  fun  and  make  sure  to  get  photographed  in  your  couture  !  please  like  this  post  as  a  rsvp.

okay  yall,  here  it  is  !  i  seriously  had  such  a  hard  time  deciding  between  all  of  these  apps  because  every  single  one  of  them  was  amazing  to  read  and  so  wonderful.  i  wish  i  could  accept  everyone  !  but  seriously,  i  just  want  to  thank  you  all  for  the  hard  work  you’ve  done,  and  for  applying  at  all.  i  did  not  think  in  my  wildest  dreams  that  this  group  was  going  to  get  this  many  applications,  but  i’m  so  glad  it  did  and  i’m  so  inspired  by  all  the  people  who  went  above  and  beyond  in  their  applications.  i  literally  loved  every  one  that  i  got,  and  it  was  nearly  impossible  to  choose  for  me.  you  all  should  feel  proud  of  your  work  whether  or  not  you’re  accepted.  again,  thank  you  so  so  so  much  <3
