𝐇𝐀𝐍𝐍𝐈𝐁𝐀𝐋 𝐑𝐄𝐆𝐀𝐑𝐃𝐒 𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐏𝐀𝐈𝐍𝐓𝐈𝐍𝐆 𝐈𝐍 𝐅𝐑𝐎𝐍𝐓 𝐎𝐅 𝐇𝐈𝐌. He had studied it at length earlier in the night, noted its almost amateur (though not offensively so) quality and instantly garnered the artist’s influences; Pollock and Dali. The work itself showed promise, Jonathan’s student had a distinct vision and an apt technique, one that would surely flourish with time, if they fed their passion appropriately.

His gaze falls away from the work of art and falls on another; Jonathan’s warm eyes holding him attentively. Orbs likes pools of chocolate and honey. He finds curiosity in the man’s scars then, prominent on half of his face and down along his neck where they dip beneath the collar of his dress shirt. Chemical burns.

Hannibal was indeed very familiar with Mr. Jonathan Cavallero; having stumbled upon his Youtube channel sometime ago, along with the reports of his kidnapping, torture and rescue.

“ Currently, I’m a psychiatrist – previously, a surgeon, ” he smiles, mused. “ I do believe I’ve seen some of your videos on Youtube. It isn’t the usual place I peruse for music but I’m glad I stumbled upon them. You’re very talented. ” He pauses then to summon a waiter carrying a tray of flutes filled with champagne. “ As for me, ” he continues, as he plucks two flutes from the tray once the waiter arrives, handing one to Jonathan. “ I am indubitably busy. I indulge in many art forms, most notably, the culinary arts. ”

“Ah—so I suppose it’s only natural that I divulge information to you.” Jonathan’s voice is level and his posture doesn’t change, but deep down there’s a sour note of discomfort there. He has no intention of spilling all of his trauma to anyone, psychiatrist or no. He watches as Hannibal plucks up two flutes of champagne. When one is handed to him, he takes it with a soft ‘thank you’. Even if he’s a little uncomfortable, he still at least needs to pretend to have manners, doesn’t he?

“Culinary? That’s quite exciting—I’m sure a man like you has excellent taste when it comes to food.” Jonathan smiles slightly. “I’ll admit, I’m not the most exciting chef, but I know how to cook a good steak.” He shrugs. “I usually hire someone to prep most of my meals. Saves time that way.” Not like he’s all that busy these days. He’s only teaching one class right now.

He pulls back slightly at the touch. It felt too kind, too tender for their current conversation. “That’s not how this works, you know that.” It was true, at least to James, that just because he felt emotion didn’t mean he had a heart. He decided a while ago to stop giving himself over to his emotions. It made him impulsive and messy. “No, I don’t,” Turning his head slightly to the side to avoid looking into Ellis’s eyes, he let out a sigh. “But don’t think, for a second, that we are the same.”

Now I want it 🙃

When Julian lays his head on Victor’s lap, Victor cannot help the way he jumps in surprise.
