I know it's out of character for Wes, but I find the idea of him actually knowing how to survive and being a jackass to the other survivors absolutely hilarious.
I can just Imagine him stealing others' beefalo and replacing it with a wild one or filling someone's personal chest/backpack with spiders or batilisks just for the hell of it, and dragging others into fights with Vargs, Ewecus, and a ton of other bosses (although to be fair, he is mute and I doubt there would be enough time for him to properly warn whoever thought he needed to be saved what they were getting themselves into).
I think this came from official art of him giving a balloon hammer to Winona despite an actual hammer being by his feet.
