L'assalto del Gatto, 16th century ~ by Faustino Bocchi…

Every photograph included in “To Be Here” exists as a testament to the ease with which cultural barriers can be broken down. These males often appear to be unapproachable because of the walls built upon our differences; but after talking briefly with these people they’ve willingly opened up to my presence in their community. By pairing portraits of black males, with images of the flowers that bloom yearly throughout Savannah’s parks and sidewalks, I seek to direct my viewers attention in which we can view African American culture as beautiful and an important part of society. (artist statement)
