it  wasn’t  like  amelie  to  fail  a  mission ;  prior  to  this,  she  held  a  flawless  record.  perhaps  that  was  the  source  of  her  annoyance — if  sombra  hadn’t  gone  offline,  their  mission  likely  would  have  gone  just  as  planned.  a  part  of  amelie  wondered  if  this  reaction  was  grounds  for  suspicion.  how  likely  was  it  that  one  of  the  world’s  best  hackers  could  fall  victim  to  a  simple  hardware  malfunction ?  ❝ you  wouldn’t  happen  to  know  anything  about  that,  would  you ? ❞

❝ shh,  don’t  squeal.  i’m  not  here  to  kill  you,  lindholm. ❞  not  the  most  professional  way  to  begin  a  business  proposal,  perhaps,  but  it  was  a  necessary  precaution ;  he  needed  to  understand  that  she  wasn’t  afraid  to  pull  the  trigger  if  he  tried  to  call  for  help.  ❝ not  this  time.  i  have  an  offer  for  you.  are  you  going  to  cooperate ? ❞  

❝ who  should  i  sign  this  for,  chéri ? ❞  she  asked  the  girl  with  a  gentle  smile,  quite  used  to  meeting  young,  excited  girls  after  a  performance.  amélie  wondered  how  many  of  them  were  dancers  too,  dreaming  of  one  day  performing  at  the  palais  garnier.  

she  could  vividly  remember  going  out  to  the  ballet  with  her  mother  and  father  as  a  child,  watching  in  awe  as  the  dancers  glided  across  the  stage.  did  this  girl  feel  the  same  way  watching  amélie ?  even  after  two  years  with  the  company,  the  thought  touched  her  heart  with  every  fan  she  met.  ❝ what  is  your  name ? ❞

it  was  a  rare  occurrence  for  someone  to  approach  amélie  with  anything  other  than  orders.  hazel  eyes  scanned  the  other’s,  searching  for  some  sort  of  hint  as  to  what  this  was  about.  ❝ what  did  you  want ? ❞

❝ you  have  no  idea  who  you’re  talking  to. ❞  a  growl  escaped  through  parted  lips,  brows  furrowing. clearly  the  answer  was  no,  otherwise  the  other  would  have  known  not  to  cross  her.
