i love your lines, but especially how colorful they are, it makes all your art visually pop! how do you get your lines to have all those colors? they pop without drawing away from the colors within the piece!
doh thanks! the color lineart is pretty simple actually, ill try to explain!
so there’s two ways you can do this; Preserve Opacity (in red) or Clipping Group (in blue)
so in the case of Preserve Opacity, you just checkmark the box…. and thats it. really. at that point any color you put on our canvas only shows up in the artwork thats already on that layer. preserving it as it were.
i use this method most frequently for lineart specifically because its fast easy and tbh LAZY lol. but if you want to be more meticulous without ruining the original layer, than that’s where the Clipping Group Method comes in-
first you have to create a new layer above your lineart layer, and then clip (select clipping group) that layer to the lineart layer below. youll see that the new layer has been clipped when the pink bar shows up on the left (in sai). from there you can just color away.
the advantage with the extra layer here is that you can make the new layer invisible (the eye icon), so you can see both your new colored lineart and your old lineart to compare what you like better, without ruining your original lineart in case you color it in a way you dont like, and you can clip multiple layers to one layer, so you can try a different color on each layer to see what works best for the original, and even give each one different effects, etc.! this way just allows you to do more without permanently affecting the lineart layer, which is what Preserve Opacity does…. but if youre a lazy sob like me lol WELP. preserve opacity is good too. you just gotta be more careful. if its a quick piece then P.O. gets the job done, but if its an illustration that you know will take days or more… yeeeaaa use clipping group lol. save yourself the regret when you realize you colored the lineart in a way you dont like but cant undo because you didnt preserve the original under color layer and now have to color it all over again…. thats what clip group is for lol.
hope that explained it! thanks for the ask! and i apologize to everyone else asking for tutorials about other topics- i get a lot and a lot of them require a lot of drawing work and explanation- ill get to yours eventually! please just be patient with me lol ;v;
