"Lets Dance to Joy Division" - The Wombats

I fucking LOVE the Wombats.  They're awesome.  They have like 3 albums I think?  I just have 2 cause I'm lazy.  I've listened to this one song at least 226 times, seriously, that's what it says on my iTunes and I know I've heard it more than that.  It's the real deal.  It's about the singer, Matt Murphy, and his biddy of a GF dancing on some table at a bar to the song "Love Will Tear Us Apart" by who else? but Joy Division.  If this story/song doesn't just embody almost everything that is #rollhammer then I give up on partying. 

LIFE is a miserable thing but it's miserable FOR EVERYONE.  Matt Murphy wasn't dancing alone, he was up there sharing the moment with someone! Put your problems to the side and enjoy the company you have, while you have it.  Everyone's got shit, it's how it is, so why NOT just say fuck it and dance like monkey (GIR)?  You only get one shot at this world, make the most of it.

"Let Me In" - The Airborne Toxic Event.

I love the Airborne Toxic Event so damn much, it's unreal how great they are.  UNREAL.  Their ability to just combine everything great in music and make it work.  #WeGetDeepWeGetDelicious 

The arrangement of "Let Me In" (click the picture and listen unless you're dumb.) is just incredible.  The song to begin with is just incredible and maul me for not researching the European deluxe edition of their self titled album and not actually knowing about this song until like 2 weeks ago, not even.  GASP.  Ugh, it's just taking me by storm AND I LOVE IT. 

Last week I watched the documentary, "All I Ever Wanted", which is about Airborne preparing and putting on their concert at the Walt Disney Concert Hall, kind of a big deal.  They, being the ridiculously great band that they are, wrote all new arrangements for the songs, incorporating the Calder Quartet, a marching band, a girls choir and everything else that they do! The thing is that there are bands that will play the shit out of their songs and the only difference will be if they are drunk or on the solo, but Airborne is just full of undeniable talent and motivation to just set the bar higher and higher for music.  You love our original version of this song? Oh okay cool, well we're going to write 2 more versions and make each even greater than the last.  It's just everything I want music to be and because of this documentary, it helped put a stamp on the fact that I want to be a director and that I want to make Music Documentaries that just reconnect the world with The Music and just fuckin' feel it son.  It's "All I Ever Wanted" in life.  

Airborne's second album, I personally like just a little bit more than the first, but that's me.  Listening to "All At Once" (the album) for the first time last year when it came out was probably one of the best expereinces musically I've ever had.  I don't think I've ever fallen in love with a part of The Music so quickly.  Throughout this album it's like The Music becomes this entity that just rips your soul out and takes you on this incredible journey as the lyrics float on top of the beautiful melodies in complete harmony.  The poetry just allows you to close your eyes and live through The Music.  And at the end it just leaves you there trying to pick up the pieces to your reality.  Then Airborne themselves come up to you, take your hand out of the memorable fog that is now your life, they pick you up and just charm the pants off of you with this even more elegant, and powerful piece of art.  And you're left there, coming out of this hauntingly beautiful fog, and just being The Music.  

Yeah, yeah we get it, they're hipsters, they have feelings, blah blah, I DON'T CARE.  Put that shit to the side, it doesn't matter here, just listen to the music, it's good to you.  

I do declare that I am half of something else, but half of that is being a hipster.

First off, how great are candles?  They smell great, and remind you of delicious delights and good times! If you don't believe me go to WalMart and sniff around! Unfortunately they do not have bacon scented candles there :/ but they are out there and all over the internet.

"Drain You" - Nirvana

Not many people now-a-days know how much I actually love Nirvana.  They have and always will be one of my favorite bands.  Kurt RIP. 

Today is the 20th anniversary of Nevermind hitting stores! Hell yeah, 20 long years since one of the most influential albums ever was released.  It took a while to make, they switched record labels in the middle of it, song names changed, but they eventually got it done.  Kurt's biggest influence for the album was The Pixies, which is awesome because the Pixies are great (and from UMass!) Kurt once said he loved the Pixies so much he should be in them or at least be a cover band, must respect! 

Anyway, this is an unbelievable album, all great songs, love "Drain You".  Bleach might be my favorite album, and I think Unplugged in New York is just so god damn impressive, historical and just shows how great bands should actually be; to be able to be the most badass, dirty, don't give a shit, grunge band and go acoustic? Unheard of, most rock bands wouldn't do that, until Nirvana.  

Show some respect, rock would NOT be the same without these guys.

"Black Forest Gummy Worms" - OCD: Moosh and Twist

I want to hate these guys, but I don't.  Click the picture, and someone let me know if I'm going crazy or something. I enjoy this album for the most part and the songs I don't like I still listen to but I'm just meh about them.  I just don't get it but I thought I'd spread the word, maybe it will be good and loved by all.  This is my favorite song off the album, check it, listen to it and then listen to "Live It Up".

"Down With the Sickness" - Richard Cheese

This song is THE BUSINESS.  I absolutely love this version, it's one of my favorite songs and easily my favorite Richard Cheese song.  Gotta love the cheese though, he's doing great things.  Personally, I LOVE jazz, always and forever, and when I first heard this like 7 years ago I was also really big into Disturbed and played in the jazz band.  To quote the late and great Miley, "IT'S THE BEEEEST OF BOTH WORLDS."  Seriously.  You've opened up the demon in me.

(I thought of this as I sat waiting for work to start at the "U" part of campus during the opening cermonies to the start of the creation of the WORLDS LARGEST STIR FRY.  The UMass band played a shorter version and as it got epic, it started to rain, the Tubas were closest to me, it was awesome, and I loved every moment of it, if it was a glass of chocolate milk I would have drank it up so quick and so often.)

"Something New" - the airborne toxic event.

December 6th, 2008, freshman year of college, I visited the Jackhammer to see Franz Ferdinand in concert, at the Orpheum Theatre.  It was a great show, the venue isn't the best for a concert, in my opinion, but it is nice (I also saw Lewis Black there).  I hadn't heard of the Airborne Toxic Event at the time and just figured they'd be the usual, average, dull opening band that no one cared about, but they impressed the pants off of me.  They really got the crowd going, they knew how to put on a good show.  And then the obsession began...

 My god.  Airborne Toxic Event (ATE).  I mean, what can you say? They're incredible.  They truly are.  "Something New" is one of my favorite songs off their first album, and it's tough to choose, but I wanted to post "Something New".  The whole first album is just impressively great, awesome, and outstanding.  The band is from LA, the singer and rhythm guitarist, Mikel, is great.  He's a writer and the perfect lyric writer.  He has some SOUL! His voice isn't the best, that's obvious, but it's perfect for their sound, it's just got that intensity, toughness, hurtful soul necessary to pull off these lyrics and sound! He was a writer, just doing what he could for magazines and stuff, then got his heart broken and dealt with a lot of family issues, and started writing! Classic.

I'll be honest, listening to their second album, All At Once, for the first time was just incredible, I don't think I've listened to an album once through and have been so blown away.  It just as a whole solidifies ATE as a band, as their own unique style combining incredible lyrics, great guitar and bass rhythms, the viola and duets with Anna just make me smitten, ugh they're awesome.  With that said, I do think their self titled first album is better, but not by much.  Overall, in both albums, they just know how to put it together, to just get you so involved in THE MUSIC.  The ups and downs, the toe tappers and the heart pounders! It's tough to find a band in today's music world that is so good from start to finish, everybody is about that one hit, fuck one hits! I need albums!

But yeah, I can easily say that they are the BEST band I've heard, new, in the last 3 years.  They aren't a bunch of scrubs from Canada or some bolsheviks that bought some torn up jeans from Salvation Army and called them selves an indie band.  Mikel, is a writer as you know and solid guitarist.  Anna, the female vocalist, is classically trained in violin and viola and only plays viola because when she went to her first practice with the band she didn't want to possibly ruin her more expensive violin so she brought her viola.  Noah, the badass bassist (wears sleeveLESS dress shirts, in the case Demetri, it's not all about leather sleeves!) is also classically trained on stand-up bass, which for me is just AWESOME.  Steven Chen, the lead guitarist is just multi-talented and an incredible guitarist and he's pretty good and the keys too.  Daren is just awesome, he's a great drummer, rocks a sweet 'stache whenever he pleases (the ultimate goal) and can fuckin' drive a boat while keeping a beat, THAT'S THE BUSINESS.  

Overall, this band fucking cares.  They are so involved with their fans, they love, LOVE to play their music.  For each of their albums they've also released an acoustic/orchestral version of each song on youtube.  Most of them are in cool locations through out LA.  The "Something New" video I posted (if you click the picture) is one of them.  My second favorite is "Innocence", it's an extended version of the album version, with the Calder Quartet which just adds an awesome sound.  When they started playing the extended part of "Innocence" at the second time I saw ATE in concert I lost my shit! It was awesome.   

Blah, blah, blah, one long rant later, JUST LISTEN TO THE GOD DAMN MUSIC.  This is THE one band vertiFATgo, as a whole, is most passionate about.  With your friends you all have music that you all like in common, and for us this is it, a drive with vertiFATgo and ATE playing is one heck of a drive.  

We get deep, we get effin' delicious.

The. Strokes.  I really do love them.  I think they're awesome, keep to their style, great riffs, not the most complicated but they do well, they're catchy and neat.  They get your feet tappin' 

"Last Nite" is the song playing, off their second album, Is This It.  It's my favorite Strokes album, it's great all the way through.  They have a bunch of great songs, off their newest album definitely check out "Machu Picchu" and "Under Cover of Darkness"
