*whispers*: 🥹he's perfect
...
Except for the bottom:
But at least it won't leak......I hope... I used Loctite 9480, a food safe 2-part epoxy.
It's been a journey. What else can I say...I love him.
Thanks to my teacher for helping me make it and for glazing it, to the lady who fired it with gold and was so patient with my overthinking, and to my friend who actually had the first idea and ordered it. It feels amazing to be able to create a big boy like this, with all the details and references, and I'm so happy I learned so much along the way. And thanks to everyone who likes/reblogs it. That brings me so much joy as well. 😊
Hmmmmmmmmm....
Maybe it'll look better irl....
Or i'll sand it a bit........
Today at work I applied the gold and took it to the lady who's going to fire it.
See ya in a few days my boy
✨Ta-daaaa✨
It is done and I'm in love, but........
...it cracked.
I can't just leave it like this, it would break my heart. And with all the effort I've already put into it, it has to...you know...work. I'm not stopping now.
So...what happened. I wanted to use some gold lustre (or whatever it's called) on the lion heads and some other details. But it needs to be fired at a specific temperature. And since my teacher doesn't use gold and I only have one piece I wanted to use it on, I didn't have anywhere to fire it. So I looked online for people who work with it. I contacted some strangers and one lady was really sweet and said she'll help. So I bought 2 grams of gold for 50€🙈 borrowed a filtration mask from work and in october I'm taking the stein to the lady for gilding.
I already emailed a teacher from my first pottery course to help me with the crack on the bottom so wish me luck with that. I also wanted to use glass in those little holes on top of the handle, to resemble that legendary sword from previous post. But that didn't work out either, so my plan B is nail gel....😮💨
Whatever happens, I'm super happy with how it turned out. It looks amazing, even the hammered effect is visible.♥️

......should I?
Update: I did it.
....I think I'm done with it for now
I thought I'd add some more decor around the lions, but it would be too busy. I also wanted to write "DRINK FOR THE ALLIANCE!" on the bottom but I also changed my mind cuz it felt kind of childish. But I did add some hammered effect with a smooth rock, which will probably disappear under the glaze 🤷🏻♀️
But I'm happy with the handle. Yesterday I googled some legendary weapons and took some inspiration:
Well...it's signed and ready to dry. My friend is happy with it, so I'm happy too😊
I planned to glaze it with blue for the base and yellow for the lion heads and trims but can you imagine avoiding all those details? Nope. It's going to be dark blue. The whole thing.
Back at it again. I'm glad I came a bit earlier today. 4,5 hours of frustration and back pain later this came to life:
So today I hand-pulled the handle, attached it and then started to figure out how to make those lion heads. After said frustration I cut the individual pieces from a thin(ish..could be thinner) slab and stucked them onto the stein where I traced the shape beforehand.......aaand repeated it on the other side.
When I finished the first lion I kept looking at it with disbelief. I'm so happy with it, it looks just like I imagined it. My teacher, my mom and the friend who ordered it love it too and that makes me so incredibly happy you can't imagine.
I really like the way this is going.
Btw gotta show my friend how handles are pulled.......something tells me he'll love it.
Very progress...much wow
It took ages to do that trim but it looks nice. Except for how wavy it is. But strategically placed handle and more decorative elements should help.
Ahh, finally. I'm so much happier with this one. The proportions are just like I wanted and if our measurements were correct, it should hold about a half a liter, which is how it's supposed to be. Oh and to prevent the disaster from the last week I took some precautions:
Also...I decided that the previous vessel will become a lidded jar. It'll suit it better:

Exhausted, defeated and completely dirty. With great turmoil this abomination was born. I mean...it's not ugly, it's actully well made. But it's nothing like wanted......so I'm redoing it next week:
And here's the other mess:
People are looking at me funny...
ok, so I'm on a big mission here. After the great success my little 'paint can coffee cups' had, my friend from work asked me to make one for his brother's birthday, he wanted a world of warcraft horde inspired mug. After realizing his brother doesn't drink coffee though, he changed it to a tankard/beer stein.
I immediately got inspired. I googled images of the wow sign, the horde logo, horde armor, horde inspired details, only to receive a message a few days later, that he wants to change the design for the alliance, cuz his brother's never played for the horde. He's lucky he's on a vacation so I couldn't hurt him irl.
So here we are, in the planning stage. I really liked this shape of the stein, because of the decorative trims on top and bottom:
Also, in the wow sign there are some really awesome details i wanted to use for the trims, even though those spikes look a bit horde-ish:
Here are some inspo pics, I used logos and armor and also a mug I didn't like, just to know what designs I want to avoid (it's not ugly I just don't want mine to look like that):
I figured out the size of the stein (it should hold about 1 liter), placement of the trims, traced and copied the alliance logo (wish he played for the horde tho) and now I'm just sitting nervously, looking at the mess I just made and waiting for tomorrow to see my pottery teacher putting up with my unrealistic expectations...yay!
Well....wish me luck.
well....they love them 🤍
she's a little baby
i had fun today
