To be fair, if Nezumi was the only one afraid of Shion, I could believe that his fear was due to his feelings — but he isn't.

nezumi is so funny. "fuck. if i go see my beloved now he's gonna actually kill me. i miss him and idk if i can endure being seperated from him when im this close. but FUCK he's scary"

The thing about Shion fans is that we truly understand the freak that he is. He's always been kind of unstable and held together only by strong bonds built with a select few people. Without those bonds or worse, with those he holds dear in danger he will always be the most dangerous person in the room because the darkness lurking beneath his nice facade is a level of apathy and anger that seeped into him from living in an unjust society and being smart enough to notice it but until he helped take things down with Nezumi unable to address it. We saw glimpses of that unbridled anger and resentment towards a system that threatened take everything, that DID take something precious from him (his best friend Safu who he loved but never in the way she wanted). And not to mention that despite this darkness he feels a profound guilt and responsibility for it not just because Nezumi gave him the "assignment" as an emotionally repressed teenager, bitter and angry at the world but also because he recognizes what happens if you don't stay and help rebuild and shape things from there. He feels like he needs to be punished for being alive and that Nezumi leaving was a punishment in of itself for not being good enough and not making things good enough for him. He's running himself in the ground because he thinks he deserves to be in the ground to a degree and the only thing that makes him push past that is having Nezumi there but also he's so toxic for that and he knows that so if Nezumi really told him fuck off no he would but then I also think that he would be a husk of himself until he eventually took himself out from being careless about himself.
