rose tinted glasses and sweet nothings lead to broken promises | 5.22pm
I read this post the other day that said āsometimes people pretend youāre a bad person so they donāt feel guilty for the things they did to youā and boiiii has that one stuck with me

Daily Thought 2044: The right thing may sound extreme.
Friendly reminder to take your medication, brush your teeth, drink some water, eat something, unclench your shoulders, jaw, or any other muscles you may be tensing, & move positions/get up and stretch for at least 30 seconds.

Watching kitchen nightmares and *hides in the bathroom for an hour* āI feel so helpless!ā Guess what Lisa, the reason youāre upset is your restaurant it shit and nobodyās fixing it, bc itās YOUR JOB to fix it. Donāt be upset and feel helpless when you should realize YOU CAN FIX THIS stop wallowing bitch
one fairly common experience of gifted children is wishing for pain. wishing you had some great big horrible thing in your past so that you can justify the pain youāre in, and so that youāll deserve help. itās exhausting and it fucks you up and to anyone out there who feels like they havenāt suffered enough to get help: youāre allowed to want help. youāre in enough pain. you deserve to feel better
holy shit yeah
is this one of those things that everyone actually does?? i just assumed i was a shitty person
I have a bunch of adhd symptoms but not hyperactivity and my attention isnāt too bad, Iāve had significant problems in the past with maintaining attention but mainly for school reading (and I think that lack of focus was partly depression caused) not paying attention in class etc. I meet enough criteria to have inattentive type adhd according to my therapist but I feel weird not having (hyperactivity) and baaaarely having (innattention) the symptoms in the acronym. The symptoms I do have (mostly executive function stuff) are interfering w my life and school though. Iām doing the TOVA test next week. and my therapist really wants me on a stimulant medication. Hopefully that can happen.
āi donāt have adhd but this adhd post is #relateableā
(the majority of this post is pulled from an older reblog I did on my main, @vantasticmess.)
itās ADHD Awareness Month so hereās a post about it. :D
Iāve gotten sooo many ā#not adhd but man i feel thisā tags on adhd posts iāve made, and tbh tags of this type drive me nuts (b/c they make me doubt the validity of my diagnosis.)
but if you, a not-adhd person, see a post about adhd experiences and relate to it, please consider the following:Ā
maybe you do have adhd?
maybe itās because most things that adhd people experience are things that most everyone experiences sometimes, only they experience it all the time.
at its heart, adhd is the inability to pick what your attention is locked onto, sometimes combined with a need to move constantly (hyperactivity). Ā This manifests as:
lively internal life + rapid thought & intuitive leaps of cognition - good when being creative, bad when trying to make a logical decision
overthinking things
impulsive behavior
short attention span + being easily distracted
unnaturally long attention span + inability to notice outside stimuli
short term memory dysfunction
executive dysfunction
no sense of priority (everything is equally important)
no sense of time in relation to self (cannot effectively tell how long an activity will take or develop a sense of urgency based on a deadline until the deadline is perilously close or already passed)
failure to follow through (leaving work incomplete)
forgetting to remember/remembering tasks at inappropriate times
intrusive thoughts
And pretty much everyone experiences one or all of these things at times, and these symptoms can spring from other causes than ADHD (for instance, executive dysfunction accompanies depression and anxiety as well).
But adhd people have this happen so constantly and so intrusively that we cannot complete basic tasks, even if we want to:
The only thing consistent about us is inconsistent results: sometimes weāre on time, sometimes weāre not. sometimes weāre reliable, sometimes weāre not. sometimes weāre studious, sometimes weāre not ⦠(and trust me weāre not enjoying it any more than you are)
We fail classes, we drop out of college, we lose jobs, and no matter how much we try, we cannot fix it.
We canāt just remove distractions - our brains are a distraction.
We canāt just ātry harderā - our wayward mind might be focusing on our studying today, but tomorrow it might not. The same effort level will have wildly different results on different days because our attention cooperated ⦠or didnāt.
it is literally impossible for us to choose our focus. pretty much ever.
it pisses off our friends, it pisses off our bosses, it pisses off our family, and it even pisses off ourselves. it affects every part of our life.
So adhd shitposts can be pretty relateable, even if you donāt have adhd. Ā But if this list sounds familiar - if the contents of it happen to you to the point that youāre getting in trouble at school or your job and youāre pissing off your friends? might be worth looking into whatās going on with you.
bringing this back b/c at least 1 of every 15 rbs of the 7 ADHD Moods post is taggedĀ ā#i donāt have adhd butā.
Thereās also some overlapping diagnoses that would make you think you may have ADHD, like Autism Spectrum Disorder, and Executive Functioning disorders.
^^^ yep, this! ESPECIALLY Autism/ASD. ADHD & ASD share a lot of symptoms.
& hereās some more stuff that can look like adhd - or that adhd can look like - but arenāt adhd:
auditory processing disorders
dyslexia
various learning disabilities
anxiety
depression
obsessive-compulsive disorder
bipolar disorder
under-educated/unpracticed in decision-making/critical thinking skills
something Iād like to make clear:Ā
the OP post is aimed at people who are neurotypical & mentally healthy (or rather, people who believe they are NT & mentally healthy).
Itās a rebuttal to the deeply invalidating claim often thrown at ADHD people by (supposedly) NT people when ADHD people describe their symptoms:Ā āI do that too.āĀ āeverybody feels that way.āĀ āthatās normal.ā
NT & mentally-healthy ppl adding/tagging posts about the experience of having ADHD by ADHD people withĀ āI donāt have ADHD but I do this/I feel thisā is ⦠very adjacent to the experience of being toldĀ āI do that tooā/āthatās normalā/āeveryone feels that wayā by NT & mentally well people IRL.
itās often well-meaning, but it feels likeĀ āyour diagnosis is BSā.
but of course, plenty of people who donāt have ADHD DO find ADHD symptoms relatable because of some other neurodiverse state or a mental illness. And they have absolutely no obligation to divulge that information in their tags/reblogs!Ā
also: frankly, itās wrong of me to assume that everyone who tags my ADHD postsĀ āI donāt have ADHD butā is NT &/or mentally healthy!
the takeaway I would like people to have from this post is:
if you think you are NT &/or mentally healthy but you strongly relate to significant numbers of posts made by neurodiverse &/or mentally ill ppl about their experiences: consider that you might not be as NT/mentally healthy as you believe.
if you think you are NT &/or mentally healthy but you strongly relate to and reblog posts made by nd &/or mentally ill ppl about their experiences: is it really so important to make sure everyone knows youāre not nd/mi? (besides, itās not anybodyās business why you relate to/reblog a post if you donāt want to explain yourself. Iām not judging you - I promise!)
this is WAY LONG so Iāll probably make this addition into its own post later.
tl;dr: do what you want & like your own status :P
āno sense of time in relation to self (cannot effectively tell how long an activity will take or develop a sense of urgency based on a deadline until the deadline is perilously close or already passed)ā Holy shit this is me. It might be why Iām constantly late. I donāt do things until I really have to or past when I really have.
shout out to my fellow sexy bitches with adhd who use way more words than they really need to literally any time they write or type anything because their point has to come across 100% like they imagined it

ADHD got me like *straight up doesnāt do something if my brain decides it isnāt fun or immediately gratifying*
Iāve been drinking/getting high too often lately. I should take a week break but Iām afraid itās gonna be hard. Being an adult and having a job means I can legally buy this shit too often.
