Look forward to it? It had been a while since heād been given, or even promised, food that hadnāt been made by Ilsa. And even by that standard he supposed the two of them did cook⦠similarly. Foods consideredĀ āhealthyā and without much by way of fat content.
Perhaps they should look into changing that. Maybe Engel could actually put on some kind of weight if his diet included more varietyā¦
āUn⦠Iāll look forward to itā¦ā
He was a surprisingly not picky eater despite how limited his meals were. He was willing to try anything at least once, as if he applied his same logic with people to other aspects of his life as well.Ā
Engel was not surprised that Rintarou had never heard of it. It was rarely did he find someone who also cooked with flowers, knew how to pair them with meals and of how nicely they worked in both savory and sweet cuisines. Though he supposed part of it could be due to the fact that procuring the flowers with which to cook could also be a bothersome task.
Running a flower shop and having all those connections certainly came in handy.
You had to make sure the flowers you used were grown organically and pesticide free, it was honestly a nightmare if you didnāt know what you were looking for and especially where to even start looking.
ā¦what could he say, Engel had a lotĀ of free time since he didnāt often socialize.
It was fairly frightening how easily he was lulled into a sense of⦠liking this exchange with Rintarou. Listening to the otherās cheerful words and responding as best he could. Making future plans⦠cookingĀ for one another.
Engel had to remind himself that this was okay. That nothing bad was going to happen to this young man just because theyād become acquainted.Ā
āā¦I can eat⦠spicy food. But Iām not⦠good at cooking it. I know⦠flowers bestā¦ā
He finally released his napkin, smoothing it out as best he could with his fingers now.
āI hope⦠youāll like itā¦ā
Not everybody found flowers to be palatable. Some could be very bitter (Engel tended to avoid those) and of course many had a very floral flavour, tasting exactly as they smelled. It could be overpowering. But if prepared well, or paired correctly, they made for wonderful accents to meals.
Learn how to make spicy food⦠for him? That was too much trouble wasnāt it? Especially since Rintarou couldnāt really eat spicy foods? He opened his mouth to ask if it wouldnāt be a lot of trouble? Rintarou didnāt have to go through all that effort for him. Engel didnāt need feel like he needed to, theyād only just met for goodness sake.
He was interrupted from speaking by the arrival of the waiter, and momentarily rendered speechless by Rintarou immediately ordering the drink Engel had recommended just earlier. He⦠he hadnāt expected that.
āā¦chamomile and rose petal tea⦠with peppermint⦠please,ā the redhead ordered, glancing to the waiter for a moment before returning his attention to Rintarou.
He wasnāt hungry so he was alright with just the tea. It was a calming brew, to help settle some of the jitters that still caused his hands to shake slightly. The way Rintarou was⦠reminded Engel a bit of his childhood. Of more carefree days when heād easily made friends no matter where he was or who he was with.
Engel couldnāt go back to those days anymore, but Rintarouās actions were enough to keep the smile on Engelās lips, a content look on his face. He didnāt contribute much, his responses short, but Rintarou kept their conversation going nonetheless.Ā
He was strangely endearing.
Ā āHee~it does suits you better than cooking spicy food~ The flower cooking i mean, or so i thinkā he agreed in the same cheerful tone that felt like little waves hitting against the coastline.
He hoped the tone of his voice would ease Engelās nerves -specially when he saw him fidgeting with the napkin to the point of making wrinkles on it- and was rather happy to see him releasing it. Of course, his looking was as casual as possible so Engel wouldnāt feel judged.
Ā Ā Ā āIām sure I will if itās something Engel-kun made~ā he allowed a big smile to show on his lips. Not only was it true that heād appreciate anything made for him by Engel, but he had a rather wide arrange of tastes... he was pretty sure heād be able to enjoy it.
Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā With his sister no longer around -and for a while now, despite him being in denial about it- Rintarou should have tried to improve his cooking already. He didnāt exactly have a lot of money to spend eating outside after all and he had quite the big appetite... so far he had made do with tons of rice and whatever was kind of easy to make, some eggs and maybe ham?
Ā But now he had a reason to improve -someone looking forward to food made by him- and that alone was enough motivation to give it a serious try. Heād find some recipes online and try them out... maybe heād also learn how to do non-spicy versions for himself or just eat it like that. Probably the later since he had to make sure the flavor was good before giving Engel a taste of it.
Ā Ā In any case, learning how to cook some different stuff would be good for everyone. And if Engel ever voiced his worries about Rintarou doing ātoo muchā he would just tell him that he was actually helping, because it was true.
Ā āEhhh, that sounds so good too~ā he tapped twice on the table with both hands, eyes sparkling as he leaned closer to the redhead āWould you mind letting me give it a taste? Ah, but donāt worry if you donāt feel comfortable with it Iāll just order it next time we come~ā
Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā He was rather pushy with his plan-making was he not?Ā āWhen i came alone i had no idea what I was doing or what to order! Engel-kun knows a lot so Iād appreciate if youād come with me and helped me pick~ā
Ā he stopped, thoughtful for a moment, before deciding to add
Ā Ā Ā āAnd I would love to spend more time with you if you donāt mind!ā
