I work as a waitress. The other night I was waiting on a table consisting of a group of hot older men. They were business men, wearing expensive looking suits. Clearly this was an after-work dinner, or maybe a client meeting. They were so dismissive and rude to me: clicking their fingers, looking at my tits when speaking to me, never saying please or thank you. I was nothing to them: just an object that moved, or part of the furniture. To them not only am I a woman, but I’m of a servient socioeconomic class that is to obey and submit. These things are never spoken about or admitted, but they are part of our daily realities reflecting the power dynamics determining who matters and who does not. It reminds me that I’ll never be anything. I’m not a socialist and I don’t reject these dynamics. But I must accept these men would never want to marry me. Perhaps fuck me, use me, and tell their friends about it later. But I am disposable and worthless. I am nothing. Sometimes I feel sad about this fact, but it is also humbling. I can’t be anything else, I must accept who I am — what I am. I am inferior. I am a whore. I must try and be the best whore I can.
