Noctis Lucis Caelum

It must be at least two in the morning by now. His mind is racing, as he stares into the smoldering remains of the campfire that sits before him. If he hadn’t gotten so comfortable lying on the ground, he’d relight it himself. It’s feeling unlikely that he’ll get a decent amount of sleep tonight, but he’s pretty accustomed to staying up late. That’s what naps are for, right?

His gaze shifts up to the night sky with a sigh. The stars are lovely and vast out here in nature. He never got to see this in the city he’s spent most of his life in. It’s possible they looked like this in Tenebrae, but it’s been too long to remember.

Traveling the world like this for the first time has made him think about how small he is in comparison. It’s usually hard to see that with all of the responsibility that’s been thrust upon him, At the end of the day, he’s just another person with hobbies, quirks, wants… but what does he want? No one’s ever even bothered to ask. Would they listen if he tried to tell them?

“Guess it doesn’t matter.” This wasn’t intended to be said out loud, and he sounds bitter. He looks back at the tent behind him, wondering if he should try to get some sleep. It seems futile at the moment with what he's been thinking about tonight, so his eyes return to the stars.

Sometimes, he just wants to run from all of this. The crushing weight of his responsibility gets heavier with each passing day, each new trial they have to face. He wasn’t built for any of it, but what choice does he have? His father had died and entrusted the future of their country to his only son. Thinking about what could be different just feels like a waste of time.

“Other than confused beyond my own understanding? I’m perfectly fine.”

She honestly was used to being out late at night, being a Keeper of the Moon, it was prime monster hunting time for her though being here what seemed to be a completely different world, she didn’t think the same rules would apply..Though she was armed so that wasn’t much of a worry for her.

Reconfirming her thoughts with the other telling her that it was risky and that they should get somewhere safer she would nod a little, “Probably a good idea..Lead the way.”

A quiet laugh escapes Noctis. ‘Confused beyond my own understanding?’ That alone could describe how he feels about at least 90% of what he's been through during his journey. The current circumstances are more important to think about though, at least until they get to the camp.

With a quick nod of his head towards the haven to show MaoMao where they’re headed, he starts walking back towards it. He doesn’t want to waste time when a daemon could show up at any moment. Unsure of how well she can see him in the dark though, he doesn’t walk too fast.

The feline features he thought he saw earlier are being confirmed when he looks back at her as his eyes start to adjust a little more to the lighting of their shadowy surroundings. He's still not entirely sure on whether or not she's from this world. There is the obvious though that he's never met a Miqo'te that's actually from Eos.

There’s always been something beautiful to Noctis about the night, even though he's fully aware of the dangers that lurk in the dark outside of the city. It’s one of the only times he can think clearly with the stillness it brings, as long as there’s enough light around to keep away the daemons.

It had felt like mere moments the feline woman had just laid down in her inn room back in her own world, exhausted from a longs day work hunting and killing monsters for Gil…Living the dream…Or so she thought. MaoMao had always wanted to explore the world, see what there was to see beyond her home in the desert but it always seemed to go too fast for her brain to process everything at once…And while she loved the adrenaline…She wouldn’t mind a slower change of pace.

Her right ear flicks a bit as she hums, rolling onto her back a little as she would stare at the wall for a few minutes…There had to be more to this life…Right? At least she hoped so. Soon sitting up she would sigh,

“Jeez..a change of pace would be nice…”

As if she had said some magic words, her ears perk right up as she started to glow and teleported right out of her inn room and into the darkness of another world, a good distance from where Noctis was laying though close enough for him to hear someone screech followed by a thud on the ground.

“The hell was that?!” She would quickly sit up, rubbing her lower back a bit

Noctis nearly drops his phone when he hears the screech. After fighting daemons on so many occasions, he knows what they sound like. That was no monster. Someone might be in danger. He slips the device back into his pocket and rises to his feet.

It’s difficult to make out MaoMao’s appearance in the darkness, even as he quickly approaches. The voice he hears speaking doesn’t sound like anyone he knows either. Once he’s close enough, he reaches out a hand to offer to help her up. “Hey. Uh.. You okay?” 

He’s still having trouble seeing, but he thinks he can spot cat ears and a tail. That’s nothing new to him. With all of his traveling, this isn’t the first time he’s met someone with those features. He just hopes this one didn’t bring a god they’d have to fight against along with her.
