amidst a comfortably desolate town,

i’d never felt more balanced.

like it’s own fresh purgatory,

birthed solely for parting individuals who,

in better times of their lives,

I bloom purple, perennially.

I, a garden of growth.

I fold and fall in winter,

through the head of a tough thinker

preparing only for my new age,

a new page for my heart to prosper and my head to wander,

i imitated an 80’s film shoot a while back and i made it to reflect some kind of niche that i’m going to try to explain but may fail.

in march 2020 i was sexually assaulted by a driving instructor. gross fact number one. he was also most likely in his 70’s. that’s gross fact number 2.

in my spiral of self destruction and painful thinking through out this time, i reflected on the way young women in vintage subcultures are consistently sexualised by older men in their weird depressing attempt to relive their younger, formative years. i feel like other women within these subcultures are often plagued by the classic

“my girlfriend in the 80’s looked just like you!”

or “GOD, i wish you were around when i was a youngster back in the 70’s

or something painfully cringe of that description.

and as vintage subcultures live on and prosper, i want you all to know that your self expression can be innocent , playful and modest. and the sexualisation of your interests and style is something you should be able to choose, without the fear of mangey old men making you feel like those bell bottoms and that halter top is worth abusing.
