"Really?" Jake snorts as Fizz wiggles around from all the attention. "Nothing wrong with enjoying anime and manga, honestly. Didn't they make some about... I believe it was Palafin? There are a number of Pokemon that lend themselves well to things like that. Accelgor, Greninja..."

"There are a lot of anime and manga that feature pokemon as their main cast. I really like the Palafin one you're referring to." She had a poster up in her room after all. "Surprisingly there are fewer series with Veevee protagonists than you'd think. Some of them are very popular, so they feel prominent. I have been maybe coming up with ideas for my own story."

It was clear that this conversation was hitting a nerve. She felt a bit awkward, but it was clear that Jake had a lot of feelings and was very closely involved with all that. And the mention of actual death... She'd had a death of someone close to her, but it wasn't at the hands of someone else. She hadn't had that kind of place to point her feelings.

"Honestly, he's got the right idea." Jake is thankful that the Jolteon stepped in and helped break the tension - he wasn't too happy with himself for creating such an awkward situation in the first place, but that's neither here nor there now.

It made her happy and relieved to have an ally for this like Penny. "I'll try to. The uncertainty about if anything's changed down there is the scary part, and hopefully it's something that I can handle. Even with Asterope at my side." Celeste replied; mentioning the Miraidon that she was in possession of.

Penny hadn't expected an Unovan history lesson, but she wasn't complaining. She'd heard her fair share of Legendary pokemon stories in Galar, it was fun to learn other ones. But hearing how those Legendary pokemon were used to do harm because of one person's twisted selfishness made her scowl.

"Tell that to people like Team Rocket and Ghetsis." There was certainly no small amount of bitterness in Jake's voice, although he catches himself quickly. "Oh... sorry. I shouldn't be venting my own frustrations on you. It's just that people like that really get under my skin."

It was clear that this conversation was hitting a nerve. She felt a bit awkward, but it was clear that Jake had a lot of feelings and was very closely involved with all that. Well if he was more deeply involved, then it was surely on the side against Team Plasma from the way he spoke. So her had details she probably wouldn't have heard on the news anyway. She wouldn't pry, but it was intriguing.

"Funny you should talk about ideals, honestly." Jake chuckles. "Unova has a pair of Legendary Pokemon - both dragons - that embody truth and ideals. They originally were once one, but the story goes that the two brothers who originally created Unova started arguing over their beliefs. One valued truth, while the other valued ideals."

"Oh... That does seem... Not good. Restless energy... I wonder if that's because it's trying to reach out to the other crystals so far away. I don't know what that would mean though. Other than possibly terastalization would be available elsewhere. Which is where the concern comes in. They used terastalization pretty freely throughout Paldea, but the energy source had existed for so long that it wasn't a concern. Would it really be able to power crystals as far away as Kitakami, or Unova? And if it does, what would that mean for both the region getting the energy and Paldea. What would happen with the Paradox pokemon? There were so many mysteries and moving pieces to this issue that it would be hard to theorize how Anything would react.

"Pretty much yeah. No one else really knows Area Zero like I do." A quiet chuckle came from Celeleste. Fate can be cruel yet also convenient; perhaps all of this was meant to happen. "And even if they refused me access, I know she'll recommend me by name for her team to go down there. I'm sure she could tell that I know more than I let her on."

Things could have a funny way of working out. If Celeste was going into Area Zero, then whoever else went was in good hands, as long as nothing really bad or out of anyone's control happened. Which was a scary thought and maybe Penny shouldn't be spooking herself like that before anything even happened.

There were, unfortunately, always people like that. People who didn't consider pokemon to be partners but rather tools or a means to an end. Penny couldn't understand that mindset at all, not that she tried particularly hard.

"Who, me? Well, let's just say I was more... deeply involved with that incident than most." He's trying to be as modest as possible here - he doesn't know how Penny would react if he out-and-out admitted to being the Trainer that put Ghetsis in his place the first time.

Well, with an answer like that, it was obvious that this was, in fact, Rin. And that it was possible that he was getting into other trouble, if he was mentioning the hospital and the government. Fortunately she was none of what he mentioned and she wasn't going to just walk away now. At least the guy could appreciate a good veevee when he saw one. Umbreon was still on the defensive, but relaxed just a little at the compliment.

"Apologize? To you?"

Penny didn't shrink away when the guy got in her face. Yes, she did feel increasingly uncomfortable, and her Umbreon could sense it and stuck close to her. She balled her fist and let out a quick breath.

"And that's the thing, isn't it? Not everybody gets the memo. Even now, there are people out there who exploit Pokemon for their own personal gain... I hate people like that with a burning passion."

Penny frowned, looking over the extensive notes that now filled the notebook. It seemed irresponsible for them to get her to collect all this data and then not use it to warn other people away from attempting to using Terastalization in other regions. And hearing Celeste's concerns about even going on that field trip to begin with made her feel sad. It was supposed to be a fun trip, even if she ended up finding out something concerning.

A sigh came from Celeste as she recalled what happened in Kitakami. "I'm glad I got to meet the Blueberry Academy students in their hometown. Sometimes...I still wonder if Kieran's doing ok; I want to apologize to him the moment I get the chance to."
