Aziraphale and Crowley enjoy theatre. They donât go there as often as they go for lunches and dinners, but they still from time to time decide to visit and see what humans have come up with this time.
However, sometimes they want to see something from the past and see how well it has held up since they last saw it. So that is where grand theatres and old arts come into play.
Aziraphale is really into opera. He appreciates the grandiose of the production and the beauty of singersâ voices. He has been little envious of those singers and their characters because they can achieve and make people feel so much by only using their voices. Even when most of the people donât understand what performers are singing about, they still feel it and listen. It is something that Aziraphale secretly wishes he could do, especially Upstairs.
Crowley, on the other hand, adores ballet. To him, it is something that reminds him of the beauty of this world and humanity. He wonders how they can express so much and be understood without a single word. And all that is achieved with such grace and precision that his snake nature cannot help but admire. One other thing he values in ballet is the sense of freedom. Freedom to move, leap and express your innermost thoughts and through dance be liberated from whatever weights you down. That is something he sometimes wishes he could do. Leap and fly to true freedom.
Of course, they havenât shared those hidden thoughts with each other, but they can see how much enjoyment their favourite opera or ballet give to their companion. So, they take turns in choosing the production. Aziraphale and Crowley never are really disappointed when they canât see their respective preference because they have one more thing in common: they love music.
