The Colours of Winter / Stand By Me
I am not a fan of Winter. It’s such a very long season which inevitably hijacks a good part of each arriving Spring. On the other hand, these two photos, taken in January about ten years ago, are amongst some of my most favourite seasonal images. I remember the day I took them like it was yesterday – how cold and still it was and how I was practically the only person out there braving the temperatures with the exception of a small number of people ice-fishing on the surface of the partially frozen water. The trees have been a familiar, friendly presence along the paths adjacent to my beautiful neighbour, the Saint-Lawrence River, as well as favourite models for me and whatever camera I’ve carried as I have roamed about over the years discovering the beauty of the River and the ever-changing face of its banks. I’ve seen the trees add to their height with each passing year growing from “wobbly toddlers to gangly teens” and the area in which they are located is probably my most frequented of all by the water.
