Dystopian future my ass. I worked a few places that absolutely frowned upon employees talking. Not during breaks. But while working. Seriously. You would be written up for being insubordinate or for being a poor worker. Do you know what it’s like as an adult to have a person in authority tell you to stop talking or you’ll be written up. Even if you were still doing your job and nothing was slowed down or affected by it. It was 100% a power move. They had the authority and could fuck your life up and make eating and having a roof over your head difficult, and they wanted you to know it. It also served the purpose of ego for every supervisor or middle manager I ever had. You have to have something really fucking wrong with you if you enforced a rule like that. And a real pathetic power lust It fits the psyche of anyone who wants those jobs. Really. Imagine being annoyed and brought to respond by two guys talking about their weekend. Or laughing at a joke. And this is not uncommon. It is EVERY single blue collar place I worked at my whole life. It was only those that had bosses that enforced the rules that made it so insane. For reference: Corrections Canada and the Canadian government made it forbidden to demand prisoners be silent while in jails or prison, unless they are being moved or are risking security. PRISONERS have more rights than workers in this country. Unions are the only answer to this. Because Capitalists couldn’t give a fuck about your well being or comfort. These are the same people who have to be forced to pay a minimum wage and to give breaks to employees. Or NONE of them would do it. Believe that 100%.
