“You are not seriously mean-mugging someone in our fucking yard again.” Ventus says, accompanied by the sound of their screen backdoor slamming shut with a vengeance.

“Should I feel bad?” Ven leans away, bracing his chin on the palm of his hand.

Vanitas looks up at him, hair a dark halo splayed across their bedclothes; bruises under his eyes from taking care of Ven, over and over again. Skinny neck and shoulders, bruises on his biceps in the shape of Ven’s fingers.

So now Ventus was here, stumbling under the darkness of the woods in the middle of the night, practically giving himself up to be vampire finger food. Half to prove Vanitas wrong, and maybe half to see what Vanitas meant. Because what could possibly be beautiful about the darkness of night?

He sat on the soft grass, careful not to ruin the ice creams. "I know you're in here," he called out to the empty air. "You can come out now." There was no reaction, but Ven knew he wasn't wrong. Kairi had been clear: when Sora had saved her, he had gone through seven hearts, and one of those was Ven's. In that heart, Sora had found darkness. Or, rather, Darkness. "I don't know if you like ice cream," Ven said. "You don't have to have any if you don't want to. It's more like a token, you know." "A token of what?"

@vanvenweek day 6, the prompt was "Myth" and since the vanven parallels have been haunting me ever since i read The Sun And The Star by Rick Riordan and Mark Oshiro, I just kinda had to do a little crossover.

"So, what's up?" "It's, um—" Ven found himself at a loss for words. "I'm sorry, what are those exactly? I've never seen dark creatures behave like this." The Heartless were certainly never this domestic—not that Ven had ever seen any in this world. "The Cocoa Puffs?" Nico looked up at Ven curiously, then chuckled when he saw the confusion on Ven's face. "Sorry, it's how Will and I call them. The technical name is cacodemons, or bad spirits. But that's just—kinda mean, you know?"

So his sleep paralysis demon—which he knew, knew was just his brain making things up out of the shadows—had progressively gotten hotter, while definitely remaining, well, a demon. Ven was pretty sure it wasn't good for his psychosexual development as he entered adulthood that the hottest thing his brain could picture was half regular hot guy, half mass of claws, tentacles, and teeth. Nothing had worked. Not therapy, not meds, not drugs, not meditation. Nothing at all. He just would not get rid of his sleep paralysis. And to top it all off, now his hallucinations had developed a kinky twist.

@vanvenweek day 4 for the prompts "Reincarnation" and "Shooting Star"! I kinda messed around with the prompts though, dug up an old idea I had where Vanitas is an assassin haunted by the literal ghost of his latest victim.

"Shit, are you okay? What'd you do that for?" Vanitas opened his eyes and found the boy had moved soundlessly, even to Vanitas's trained ears. He was close—far too close—and reached out for Vanitas's injured hand. But before Vanitas could pull away, his fingers closed around Vanitas's wrist…then went through. "Fucking hell," Vanitas swore under his breath as the boy stared open-mouthed. "How did you do that?" he asked Vanitas, panic seeping into his voice. "I didn't do anything," Vanitas said, somber. "You did."

"I know what you really want, Vanitas. And I can give it to you here and now. If you just give us a chance to try." "You have no idea what I want." "Don't I? I've been fighting your emotions this entire journey." Vanitas had admitted to it himself—the Unversed were his creations, his dark emotions. "I'm starting to get a pretty solid grasp on what they're like."

@vanvenweek 2023 is here, so I'm posting my entry for the day 1 prompt "Royalty"! And I just had to revisit the story I started for vanven zine earlier this year. Prepare for arranged marriage and angst. And Ven getting a little too bold.

If there was one thing Ven had been counting on to delay his fate, it was that planning a royal wedding took time. Surely, he and Vanitas would be able to come up with some clever escape scheme before then, run away from the palace and go into hiding, only to gather allies from the shadows and reclaim the throne. It was how the stories went. Except the stories—and Ventus—had not taken into account the fact that this wedding was already all planned for.
