His lyrics can be hilarious, but just when you're off your guard, he pulls you up short with a repeated line like "stop what you're doing and breathe." Or the song "God said no." Intertwined with the humor, there is a lot of truth and pathos. Also, @marcreisman tore it up on harmonica tonight. I cannot believe how lovely this weekend has been. I am so grateful for the opportunities I have been given and all of the kind and wonderfully talented people I have met here. My day started off with a bang - the promoters called me at 9:15 am to fill in for a band who had the flu. :/ The set was... At 10 am, 15 minutes across town. I've never gotten ready so fast in my life. The room was packed and warm and cozy and I didn't give a fig that I hadn't had breakfast or coffee and probably still had sleep in my eyes. It was just magical, and I am grateful. One more @30afest set at 6:45 pm, in the round at The Bay. Perseverance. I've got it in spades when in come to a lot of things, but not always when it comes to editing my own songs. Like most writers, I'm not a fan of the rewrite. I tend to throw my hands in the air, panic, and declare a song unfixable. Worse yet, I get grumpy when I get called on it. Thank you, @rip_rowan, for pushing me to save song babies.
