#TBT to when senior @vanartsphoto students spent the day out on location with instructor @adamblasberg at @roeddehouse for their Advanced Lighting demo! Students get a hands-on look at a professionally produced shoot. Tonnes of information & laughs for everyone plus with @lisakaulback keeping things on track, we still managed to wrap with 2 minutes to spare! It seems like we do this at least once a year for Jens Kristian Balle, so it comes as no surprise that he’s once again nabbed an award for his work. This time around it’s for “Portrait Photography - Single” from Applied Arts Magazine. It’s a highly coveted award every year and puts Jens in some great company with some of the instructors that he worked with VanArts - Vancouver Institute of Media Arts, like Foodie Photography

Looking forward to hearing from Jens at our Alumni Night this Friday!

Instructor Christopher Morris handles a lot of classes for us at Vanarts. Photojournalism, Action and Sports, Intermediate and Advanced Lighting are just a few of his courses and all are integral to the overall program.

Outside of his teaching duties, shoots some incredible events, including the last 3 Olympics and the Pan Am Games last year. Every Spring, Chris heads up to Falkland, BC for an event that is decidedly more rustic. Chris shoots the Falkland Stampede, a rodeo that has been operating for nearly 100 years. This year, Chris shot some wonderful portraits in addition to the fantastic action that is always on display at the event.

Just received an update from @vanartsphoto grad Kiva Huang http://kivahuang.com/  @kiva_huang about some previously unknown awards! Honorable mentions from IPA and Prix DE La Photographie Paris in 2014 while he was a @vanartsphoto student.

A little look at one of our creative forces, Ross den Otter of @pink_monkey_studios. Ross is a great photographer and artist, shooting people in his Pink Monkey Studios role and everything else as Ross the artist. He had a terrific shoot/display/experiment with a room-sized camera obscura for the Capture Photography festival in April. Ross always has a great project brewing, follow his work here:
