The thing about Sherlock Holmes is that you're really not expecting it to be that gay, or at least not as gay as some recent adaptations, and then they're holding hands, staring at each others eyes in reassurance, talking about how intimate their relationship is, sleeping together, going on trips together, singling each other out among everyone else, watson saying there's nothing he enjoys more than to help holmes, holmes going out of his way to ensure watson lives with him, panicking over the idea of the other one getting hurt... the constant reassurance that there is no one they admire more than the other.
