The ringing of the phone interrupted Lan Wangji’s meditation. He wouldn’t normally have answered and risked disruption, but it was Brother, calling from where he was staying in Africa.

“Hello, ge,” Lan Wangji answered.

“A-Zhan!” Brother responded with his characteristic enthusiasm.

“I didn’t expect you to call until Thursday,” Lan Wangji said.

“Surprise!” Brother exclaimed with a laugh. “How’s everything?”

“Everything is the same,” Lan Wangji replied.

“Have you spoken to Uncle recently?”

“I speak to Uncle on Wednesdays. Today is Monday.”

There was a silence that meant that Brother was smiling and shaking his head. “Do you think you might go visit him?”

“I visit Uncle every two months,” Lan Wangji said, patiently. “I will not visit him again for five weeks.”

“Yes,” Brother agreed. “But maybe you could visit him sooner.”

Lan Wangji paused, trying to understand what his brother could mean. “Do you have a reason to be concerned?” he asked, finally.

“I just spoke to him,” Brother said. “He has adopted a cat.”

Lan Wangji wasn’t sure what to say. “Uncle?” he repeated, finally.

“Yes,” Brother agreed.

“Uncle does not allow pets,” Lan Wangji said.

“Yes.”

“Cats shed fur. They are dirty and have parasites. They bring in dead mice. They have litter boxes which must be emptied,” Lan Wangji recited from memory. Brother had often tried to persuade Uncle they should keep pets.

“He adopted a cat,” Brother said again.

“Perhaps he has a brain tumor,” Lan Wangji reflected.

“He calls it Xiao Ying,” Brother said.

“Perhaps I should visit sooner,” Lan Wangji suggested.

“Oh, would you?” Brother asked, sounding relieved.

“I shall speak to him about possible travel plans.”

“Oh, that would be great,” Brother told him. “I would be so relieved. Look, I have to go, but we’ll talk on Thursday, okay?”

“Yes,” Lan Wangji agreed. “I will contact Uncle, assess my schedule, and provide you with an update on Thursday.”

The whole omegaverse thing is a biological exaggeration of male and female stereotypes/standards, so sure, omegas are expected to be soft and sweet but damn, do they fight dirty. Alphas are all brute strength and punches and kicks, but omegas are scrappy and clever. The usual high school fight between girls, turned up even more vicious: hair pulling, scratching nails, knowing all the spots that’ll hurt like hell. Oh—and biting.

Sure, an alpha will probably overpower an omega in a 1v1 boxing match. No duh. But omegas will latch onto you and gouge your eyes out, rip the cartilage of your ears. Grab your head by your hair and bash it into the ground over and over and over again. Especially since they’re fast, and quick, and there is most certainly force behind agility. Besides, you think an omega would leave their alpha behind in a fight? They’re not diving for safety; they’re tag-teaming by ripping flesh from bone.

They are not helpless.

While my Alphas are much more aggressive than Omegas, Omegas are much more violent. When an Alpha would yell, an Omega would get physical. When an Alpha would maim or injure, an Omega will almost certainly kill.

This is because an Alpha's protective instinct makes them react to potential threats as if they were actual threats -- better to over-react than to overlook real danger -- which means a lot of Alpha aggression is just peacocking. Hell, alphas beat the crap out of each other as a bonding activity. It's nbd.

Omegas, as the ones who are generally having and rearing children, will not play those games. They have that insane hyper-aggressive protective mama bear thing going on, regardless of if they actually have children or not.
