Tried @discoveryfusionbbq in the HMart plaza in San Jose/Cupertino with @maybo212 and her friends. Variety of dishes including exotics like bugs (did not order 😬), skewers, "foil" dishes, rice and noodles. The frog legs were actually pretty good. Favorite skewers include the mini lamb and chicken hearts. Some come with 5 per order but most were single skewers ranging from $3-6. There's also lareoke but beware, if there's a singer on shift, you have to pay $2 singer tips per person in your party they don't disclose this. I'm looking forward to this spaghetti and meatballs again from @rpmitalian in a month. The brussel sprouts salad was good the last time we were here, but it seemed different and I concluded it didn't have the crunchy parmesan. Since I liked the fried fish from the Pug and Grill, I got the fish and crisps from Gordon Ramsay's Burger. I ended up not really eating bread. Fish was cooked well but a bit too much aioli. We got sweet potato fries too that were okay but was with a honey jalapeno sauce that seemed too sweet with the vanilla sugar dusting. Dinner at Mon Ami Gabi. I would come back for the salad and french onion soup but the salmon was a little fishy and I thought it was paired weirdly with a tough pork belly. New year's eve dinner of sous vide beef short ribs two ways. One with a parsley herb sauce and then other with a beurre blanc like sauce mixed with au jus over pommes puree. Checked out La Note with @mega_noms. Got the omelette with ham and cheese. Potatoes were pretty bomb. The whole roasted garlic cloves were so gooood. Cinnamon french bread was a bit dense but were yummy. Creme fraiche pancake was also good and fluffy. Would definitely get this spread again. Thanks @mega_noms! Another memorable meal from @noodleinhaystack. It was like a sea to land progression each with a ramen bowl. The uni ikura abura soba was hands down my favorite. It was like a 3-egg carbonara. Creamy sea goodness. It was my first time having a shoyu from them, and it was a clean broth with layers of flavor. The addition of the mala braised beef transformed the soup so a spice packed taiwanese beef noodle-like soup. To close out the meal, the classic dorayaki. Filled with Chantilly cream, chestnut and salted brown butter crumble cookie. Those doryaki cakes had a good bounce and slight savoriness to complement the filling. I wish I had two 😅 I loved how everything was different from the last time we were there 6 months ago. I think I've found my new favorite cookies. I made brown butter chocolate chip cookies using @chuaochocolatier s'mores dark chocolate bar. The chocolate bar provides enough saltiness through the graham crackers. @petiscosadega but with friends as a "holiday" dinner. Octopus and mushroom rice are my top favorite tapas here. Nice trying bid ear prepared differently from the gelatinous Chinese braised style. definitely skip those garlic shrimps. A little mushy and nothing special about the garlic shrimp. Would have been better if cooked fresh with the shell and not cut in half. I also like their orange torta. Nothing like cold stir-fried Chinese veggies and shredded potatoes that just hit the spot. Fashion Wok has a bar of cold appetizers to select from and you can choose what to add to the plate.
