For the horse animation I just posted, my original intention was to rotoscope over a video in After Effects, using the “jointed” figure I made in Photoshop (every part of the horse and rider was on a separate layer so I could move each one individually.) This was made difficult, however, due to being unable to find a video at the right angle or speed. So instead, I used Eadweard Muybridge’s wonderful equine movement photography as reference to move the figure. This isn’t the exact set I used, instead they were from a book called “Animals in Motion” that features over 30 different kinds of animals movements, all captured by Muybridge. I think this is the 3rd time I have gotten it out the library this year! I might just have to buy it tbh, lol :P

Eadweard J. Muybridge
