The painting has just been sold at Christie's in New York for $142.4 million and therefore became the most expensive artwork ever sold at auction. The painting shows Lucian Freud, a close friend and fellow artist of the painter, and is considered one of his greatest masterpieces. It was sold after six minutes of bidding to an anonymous buyer. The price eclipsed the $119.9m paid for Edvard Munch's "The Scream" last year.
