She watched them freeze, and wondered if she crossed a line. Trying to remain cool and pretend she hadn't noticed the slight blunder, she hid her face behind her own cup of coffee.
Did she ever feel like the world was pressing down on her? Yes. The burden of keeping Hope happy and placated was stressful, but surely it didn't compare.
"Yes, but I doubt that burden was as heavy as yours is." Jalon had her own problems, of course; it was heavy to Jalon, a burden she wished she never had to carry, but it wasn't...she didn't have the world counting on her as much as Vax did. The end of the world was everyone's problem, but she wasn't leading the team like Vax was. There was a little less pressure.
Vax huffed a little, mirthless laugh. Of course, there wasn't really anyone who could compare experiences with her at this point. Maybe the Inquisitor could, but she'd only met them the once, and they hadn't made particularly deep conversation.
"Well, it's shit, isn't it?" she replied. She took a long swig of her now lukewarm coffee. It tasted a little sad. "It really is. I don't know what you have going on, but you have my sympathies." Times like this, Vax wished she hadn't gone clean. Things would feel easier if she could drift away on the black dragon's back, as it were. Her fingers trembled a little with the ache of want for that bliss.
"I mean, you have my ears, too," she added; a bit of a throwaway sentiment, but genuine, nonetheless. "They're pretty good ears for listening to problems, and it's what a leader is for anyway, right?"
