When Everything Changes
Chap 6 Rating: T Summary: Oh my goodness I haven't posted in FOREVERRRR. Please enjoy!! And I want feedback please! I feel like no ones reading these anymore...? **(Earlier in the day) "MOVE IT. COMING THROUGH. BEHIND BEHIND. WATCH OUT," the doctors say as they're all sprinting down the hall rolling Tobin. Tobin was pale, motionless, and had an oxygen mask around her face. She was never seen like this before. "ROOM 17 IS HERE," they say as they stop and turn right. 17. "I NEED AN IVY IN AND MACHINERY SET UP NOW," yells the head surgeon. The assistants do as they were told. "Check her pulse." "She's breathing, but not normally," "What do you mean?" "I feel 3 beats per second. Not 2." "Shit," the surgeon in charge mutters. "Doctor what would you like us to do now?" "WELL DON'T JUST STAND THERE, RUN TESTS! WE HAVE TO KNOW WHAT'S HAPPENING. FAST." Again, the assistants do as they were told and get to work, rolling Tobin and her ivy into room 13 for testing. 13. The doctors carefully lay Tobin down on the table and send her cold body through the MRI scanner for any physical injury. She comes back out. They draw her blood and put it in different labeled tubes, while she is on the ivy. They run a catscan and a series of other tests, then bring her back to her hospital room, room 17. She is stable, but has an irregular heartbeat. No one will know what's happening until the test results come back. **(Alex's POV) "BEEP BEEP. BEEP BEEP." "Ughhh." Alex slaps the top of the alarm clock to press snooze. 10 minutes later. "BEEP BEEP. BEEP BEEP." "Really!" Alex checks the time. 8:40. "Can't a girl ever get some sleep around here?" She sits up and flings her legs over the side of the bed. She hesitates for a second because she's alone in the room, then remembers what happened yesterday. She sighs. Another day. Another chance. She says this to herself everyone morning, meaning she will always have the chance to get better. She puts on her Adidas sweatpants and slides, throws on a comfy shirt, and ties her hair into a messy bun. She grabs her phone and room key then walks out the door. She turns around to make sure her door is closed then immediately hears a voice. "I'm sorry what?" Alex says as she turns around to see Ali with a cup of coffee, walking back to her hotel room. "I said, 'Hey Al, you going down for breakfast?'" "Oh. Uh. Yeah. Sorry I just woke up." "It's okay. They've got omelets, fruit, and muffins. It looks really good. I just went to get coffee and give Ash some more time to sleep--she had a rough sleep. Want to come in? I'm sure she won't mind," Ali says with a smile on her face. "Umm." Alex thinks deeply about this. I've been very lonely lately. I guess it would be nice to talk to someone for once. Plus I'm sure my teammates would want to talk to me downstairs. "Sure." "Okay, come right in." Ali slides her card in and waits for the light to turn green, then pushes the door open for her and Alex. They walk in to find Ashlyn snoring in her bed. "Hey Ash. Ash. It's time for breakfast." "Ughuggh. Really?" "Ashlyn Harris. Wake up. Or I'll make Alex do it." Ashlyn realizes that Alex is actually standing by the door looking at her now that Ali mentioned her name. Ashlyn immediately snaps up and gets herself together. "Oh Alex. Hi. How-how are you? Well I mean good morning. But. Uh. Why are you here? I mean. Uh. Not it a rude way at all. Nevermind. Scratch that. Um. I'm sorry you have to see me like this." Alex tries to hold back a smile, because Ali can't contain her laughter. "Ashlyn, you act like I've never roomed with you before. Is this going to be you in Orlando?" Embarrassed by her actions and relieved that Alex is more positive this morning, Ashlyn cautiously laughed while Ali explodes and is practically crying by now. "Ali, what is wrong you?" Ashlyn asks annoyedly. "I feel bad for Crystal when you guys go back to Washington," Alex teases. This time, the forward and keeper start laughing while the defender's laughter dies down. Ashlyn puts on a jacket and slides then ties her hair into a ponytail. The 3 gather themselves then walk to the elevator. They quietly wait while Alex hopes they don't run into someone on the elevator. Complete silence and awkwardness. The elevator beeps and the door opens slowly. Alex looks up from her phone to see someone in the elevator. "Crap," Alex whispers for only herself to hear.
