Scarlet felt her tears threatening to fall. She takes a deep breath, trying to get the words. Trying to be composed while thinking of leaving the ones you love for a better future and a happy ending, was definitely painful. “He is…but…he understands. He knows I need to spread my wings. I need to be free.” The wolf girl lifts a hand to caress Ophelia’s cheek, wiping her tears. I need to be strong, she thought. “I trust you with him. Just…take care of him. And I’ll be sure to keep in touch.”

Immediately, Scarlet lets go out of her suitcase handle and allows herself to embrace Ophelia tightly. Rubbing her back with circles, and hushes of sweet whispers to console the goddess. “I won’t ever forget you. You are one of the most…w-wonderful people I’ve ever grown to trust and love.” She lets out a choked statement, it came from the bottom of her heart. Scarlet closes her eyes, allowing Ophelia to enchant her hood. Lifting a hand to touch her fabric, smiling sadly as her tears finally fell. “T-Thank you….Because of you…I never gave up on love. I will always think of you.” She lets out a breathy laugh before her tears finally fell. “Thank you…for being my best friend. The one I’ve always dreamed of and needed all of my life.”

She knows it’s inappropriate to make a joke but in true Ophelia fashion, she shakes her head as the other wipes her face. “Your a fucking wolf, not a bird! You don’t need to have wings!” She complained as the tears kept flowing easily down her face as she hugs her friend back. 

The walls of the school echoed the memories of his youth. Every mischievous moment with his many partners in crime and the unforgettable moments, that reminded him he was more than just a child of a villain. Unfortunately moments like that never last too long. As he packed his things, he began to recall the people that made his youth so worthwhile. The tigress, cupid, the captain, the pirate, the goddess of the underworld, the tangled prince and the red hood. Although small parts, they were still apart of it. And after spending all this time in the light, leaving to the dark had gotten a little bit harder for Jaye. 

Ezio, his best friend, promised that no matter happened the two of them would never stray too far from each other. So he never had to worry about him. His dear little brother had left the academy some time ago. Chaaya and Jaye decided to end it as it was. They both knew this was just a temporary madness. It was fleeting but amazing.

After getting her diploma on early terms, thanks to her intelligence and with her father’s help, Scarlet was going to leave. The wolf girl held her head high underneath her hood, a suitcase wheeling behind her. However, she wasn’t expecting Ophelia to catch her. She wasn’t ready to say goodbye, but she had to. It was necessary. To grow and move on. Ever After was only a chapter in her life. She remembers it all. Her lips quiver as Ophelia asks the right questions. She deserved to know.

“I-I’m leaving… It’s time that…I-I need to f-find myself.”  

Her eyes flickered red, the same signal that she was sad. “I’m…s-sorry. Jewel. Really I am.” She held her friend’s hands tight. “You won’t be alone. You have Cardinal.” She lifted her hands to her friend’s cheek, wiping her tears. Scarlet allows the tears to fall, knowing this was the most painful goodbye she’s ever done. Kay’s was not at all compared, they were just as the same.  “I’m leaving because…” She took a deep breath. “I’m traveling the world. Hopefully be happy and find the one who won’t run away for once.”

She tried to listen with an open heart, but it was breaking with every word. Ophelia knew damn well what it was like to try to find yourself, but the pain of losing someone else overtook her logic. “Cardinal...must be heartbroken.” She mused while letting the other wipe her eyes, “he can’t stay here without you..” She tried to blame it on the brother, he was the one hurting not her. 

Not everyone had the same familial circumstances or relationships. “Not many…Really, it just depends on their families.” Scarlet responded in time before Ophelia could speak. “We’re not required to give..But it’d be nice because some people just need something from those they love.” She conjured the words from her mouth. Honestly, it sounded almost like Valentine’s Day. “Think of it as…a more specific Valentine’s Day with specific gift requests. But without all the pinks, dollies, flowers, and cheesy pickup lines…Ooo. And the amounts of chocolate.”

The wolf girl’s ears perked up at her words. She laughs, knowing that Cardinal is a literal sweetheart himself, yet he looks like he could chop firewood. “Yeah, that’s Card for you.” Placing her hands into her pockets, eyes kept onto focus on her friend. “He’ll like anything. It’s hard not to please him.”  Eyes wandering to the windows as she stood by her friend’s side. Giving it much though, she answers. “I don’t really know…Maybe both mom and dad? Never really gave it much thought.” 

Although she was sure that Scarlet meant the analogy as helping her, she had absolutely no clue what Valentine's day was but it sounded quite terrifying. “Um? What is the Valentines day and why does it sound so gawdy?” She asked whilst her nose scrunched up in disgust at the thought. “It sounds similar to this holiday, Festival of Juno Februa...it’s an anniversary of Hera and Zeus marriage. Although it’s mostly in irony since neither are very faithful.”  She explained before crossing her arms and raising an eyebrow, “What do you do with Valentines?”

They suited one another, Ophelia with her soft looks that seem to be carved from clouds yet she rained down words and anger that were almost as powerful as her looks. Cardinal on the other hand was brusque and had a deep voice that left girls weak on their knees yet he was so gentle and shy that it was shocking. “I guess I’ll just have to think about it some more.” She whispered with a pressed expression before nodding along to her conclusion. “From what I heard, you seem similar to your mom. Seeing past what others see, and being kind to everyone.” She gave a half smile before glowing her eyes pink and watching two people walk under the mistletoe and suddenly kiss.

Scarlet smiled, “I cared…for a very long time. Tried not to let it get to me as soon as I started Ever After.” She admitted remembering the low whispers she’d received when she was a loner wearing a hood. Concealing her wolf ears was a burden to begin with. “Yeah I understand. People can change…and believe me, I honestly have regretted being aggressive to you at first.” But knowing from her words, Ophelia and Scarlet have forgiven each other. It was for the best. “Maybe? It’s not always fun to be half a wolf..You get asked if you transform under a full moon. Boring.” She playfully rolls her eyes and fake yawns.

Narrowing her eyes playfully, although she’s not ticked or bothered by the fact that yes, Cardinal and Ophelia have engaged in explicit things. After all, her brother was his own person and she’d only want him to engage in things that’d make him happy. “I don’t know… maybe you take your dry and clean, warm laundry…pour it on the floor and dive right into it cause you like the warmth? Honestly wouldn’t be surprised if you haven’t done that yet.” Pressing her lips together in thought of Ophelia nose diving into a pile of warm clothes.

Although Ophelia was technically right, but the wolf girl had her reasons not to follow her destiny. The thought of being mob chased to her death was enough to give her the idea of rebelling against tradition. And of course, all the Reds and the Wolves were Rebels themselves. “You’re right… I don’t plan on dying anyways.” She smiled calmly as if her destiny of dying in the hands of hunters didn’t faze her. At this point, she’s desensitized. 

“No need to take pity. It’s in the past and honestly, Cardinal and I were always going to make sure we’d be happy in the end. Together or not that is.” Scarlet assured her before squeezing her hand gently. “Can’t really imagine the feeling of him graduating….in his perspective that is.” She laughs at the thought of Cardinal not wanting to leave her by herself. “But that’s okay… I have you at least.” Pointing that out. Closing her eyes as she laughs, “How else am I suppose to express that I do approve of you?” 

Cushioning her cheek, “Tell me… What made you like my brother?”

The goddes frowned when she saw Scarlet’s expression darken at the memories, “it’s okay...personally I don’t regret things. I think when your alive as long as I am, you start to think everything that happens creates the situations you are in. Maybe if we never had such a bad meeting, we wouldn’t have been so close.” She thought back when she saw Scarlet sleeping so peacefully, and wondered how far they had come and how far they would go together. “I wouldn’t trade the whole thing for the world.” She mused before shaking her head, this wolf girl made her quite the sap. “Sometimes I’m asked to do ‘godly stuff’ which I’m not sure what that implies so I just make them fall in love with a bench or something.” She laughed at the memory before smiling at her friend, it seemed some mortals were too naive.

At the idea of rolling around in the laundry she widened her eyes, “there is such a thing?” She asked before thinking it over, after putting the dirty clothing in the mouth of the clothing machine and then moving it to the wind inside machine, the clothes were very warm and cozy. “I should try that.” She began to daydream at being surronded by all the freshly cleaned clothing, “wouldn’t that make them dirty again though?”

At the prospect of the other dying, she instantly hugged her friend tight. “Don’t even say that. I will protect you, I will protect everyone I love here.” The l-word slipped out before she could stop it, and she covered her mouth shortly after while blushing. “A-Anyway, you have to die eventually from old age right? No need to die early.” She avoided her eyes for a moment. 

She listened before smiling, the bond between siblings was really a beautiful thing. They hood siblings were so close, many thought they were going to get married instead! It was sad to think about the following year when Cardinal leaves Ophelia and Scarlet behind. “I’m probably going to be a mess when he leaves..” She confessed before grinning “I’ll have to claw him away from you for our goodbyes.” Cardinal adored his younger sister, for good reason too. “Well, I am your big sister right? Gotta stay by your side.”

Those were definitely good descriptions of the fairy– Faybelle was indeed arrongant, flirty and all powerful, also careless and evil should have been added to those facts, but oh well. Ophelia knew enough to stay on her lane, or such Fay thought until the female started speaking again. “Erikson’s sister has a name, quite more impressive to be honest. And I really don’t care what you think about us..” She said with a nonchalant expression across her lips as she as she fluttered her wings to keep herself in mid air.  

Her question made her scoff and even rolled her eyes a little. “Why shouldn’t you? Nothing is for free in this life.” She said, helplessly bursting out in loud laughter to her next statement, capturing everyone’s attention on the way. “Did you just said captain? Haha– I’m sorry.. I-I.. thought, your title was co-captain, isn’t that like..second best?” Soon their partners glares turned into fits of muffled laughter as the fairy look Ophelia straight into her eyes, with a huge malicious grin upon her features as she flew closer to her face. “See I don’t see why we all have to be punished for your stupidity– is not our fault nor responsibility to take care of your homework. And I’ll like to know what would the Headmasters think of you penalizing students with more practice hours for something like this.” she said and simply shrugged, gently flying down to the floor to grab her bag. “I don’t know about you guys, but I’m not staying–” She said while already walking away, and some of them did the same and walked after her.

Her laugh reminded her a mix between a hyaena and a donkey, pity that she was so beautiful and her laugh sounded so unattractive. It was silly to believe that anyone could be perfect, besides Ophelia anyways. “And where is the captain? Oh yes, the hospital.” Where she would end up if she didn’t stop the incessant noises erupting from her throat. She ignored the others laugh, they probably found it refreshing to see someone step up to the dictator of a leader ever since Gwen left. “Like you have so much power on this team? As what? A fairy who already knows how to fly and is thrown into the air? Such talent!” She clapped at the girl at her moving closer she kept her eyes looking into hers, not safe place for our dearest Faybelle to be looking after all. Her eyes glowing red as she spoke so superiorly, the Thorne siblings didn’t exactly have a great reputation after all. 

As the mention of ‘him’, Scarlet knew she was referring to Kay. Avoiding the goddess’ eyes for a few brief moments in silence as it usually upsets her. It took about at least 2 weeks to accept the fact that Kay was gone. And it broke her to the extent where she didn’t leave her room for a few days. Now, she wasn’t sure how friendships could last when the year is over or when she graduates. Friendship was a foreign concept to the girl from the very start.

Scarlet couldn’t help but chuckle at her friend’s remark. Ophelia was still herself after all. Listening to her friend ramble on keenly, hands in her pockets as they walked side by side. “Well…I don’t see it that way, Jewel. People usually see it as a way to see family or understand the concept of giving/receiving.” Of course, she understands why Ophelia is perplexed. She’s a goddess after all.

Passing by a few windows, gazing at the dresses and skirts. Scarlet turns her attention when her friend speaks up, ears perking when their arms made contact. “Hmmm…Anything from those he loves. But if we have to be specific…Something related to cooking or home economics. I swear, he takes after Granny.” Not forgetting to add that Cardinal is a practical guy.

Understanding new traditions was one thing, but trying to apply them to her own life seemed to be a separate ordeal. “...I’m assuming not all mortals live with their entire extended family then?” She raised an eyebrow before shuddering, she wished their was a holiday to get away from her dreaded grandparents, great grandparents, aunts, third cousins, half brothers ect. “Why must we need a whole holiday to give to others? Do all mortals have to give on this day?” 

Nowadays, it seemed that Scarlet was her closest confidant when it came to all things Cardinal. Well, most things anyway. “Your brother looks so tough but is such a domestic softie.” She mused her face instantly brightening while thinking of the male who made everyday feel like christmas. “OH! I can cook....” This was half true, she knew how to make magical baked goods but nothing homemade really. “So he likes things that cannot be bought hmm?” She kept that in mind before absentmindedly looking inside the windows as she talked to her friend. “If he takes after your grandmother, who do you think you take after?” 

Scarlet laughs, “Have you seen me? I’m called wolf girl or wolfie. People who really do love me call me by my real name.” The fluffy black ears flickered at Ophelia. She sighs, “It’s whatever. Perhaps no guy will see past this biological factor of mine.” Indeed like a pup herself, she pouts similarly to a child. Oh if only a guy really did somehow see past her physical appearance. But Jimin was nice and unique.

The wolf girl answers her on the disappearance of some of her hooded garments, “Donated some of them. I only kept the ones I was sure I could wear because the human world isn’t still bright as Ever After.” Though the beach trip still had human inhabitants, she remembered a few guys catcalling her for more. Wasn’t the most pleasant experience, but going outside without her hood in front of humans gave her a new sense of reality. Scarlet turns to her before chuckling, “I remember everyone was so obsessed with destinies. People tend to ask what was yours and what not. It annoyed me to no end.” She gently tucks a hair away from Ophelia’s face, “But you…You never asked.”

With the goddess’ outburst of laughter, she couldn’t help but laugh as well. As if laughter was contagious. Scarlet stuck out her tongue briefly before rolling her eyes. “Yeah I know. Still can’t believe it.” Raising a brow, “I better not expect a mistletoe hanging outside my door, Jewel.” Remembering that they were dorm neighbors. 

Her father being the Big Bad Wolf, especially wolf meant that he was protective over his family. The women of the Hood and BadWolf family were treasured due to their kind and courageous nature. “He’s not really hard…But if you were the same gender as him, yes.” Seeing how he’s not openly enthusiastic around men. Thinking briefly before giving her a definitive shrug. “It’s more of both….He was really attached to me. It’s just…” She pauses remembering her tragic accident and his. “We both learned to survive that’s all.” Giving the goddess a sad smile before paying attention to her words. “Haha well Cardinal is a keeper.” Winking at her suggestively.

Waving her hand dismissively at the other speaking of her nicknames, “who fucking cares about what people call you?” She shook her head, thinking of all the flack the girl must have endured to be still self conscious of what Ophelia found as insanely charming. “I mean, I was called awful nicknames when I came here. Even you said so.” She hated to bring up the nasty past between the two but she needed to make the point. “People change, and people’s mindset’s change....you will grow on people and so will your ears....no literally although that would be awesome.” She imagined everyone at school with wolf ears and giggled at how cool and cute everyone would look.

“Same with Cardinal, well most are in my closet actually or on my floor...” She met her friend’s gaze before laughing, “because I haven’t done laundry~” She poked her cheek playfully, “what did you think I meant?” It was true that destinies seemed to be a big deal around here, she never thought much about it, it wasn’t like she could stop being the goddess of war and sex. That was genetic, just like being a wolf or being a fairy. Princesses and princes didn’t get it. It wasn’t as simple as choosing to be royal or rebel. 

Feeling her friend’s gentle touch, she shrugged not thinking it was a big deal. “Whether you want to follow your destiny, or even whatever your destiny is...as a god, I believe that defying those things is what life is all about.” There would be no interesting stories in greek mythology if it wasn’t for mortals and gods doing the unexpected, it made for the best stories when you were brave. 

“Like knitted scarves and sweaters or carved trinkets. I—uh,” clearing his throat as cheeks heated, the Hood admitted, “like to cross-stitch different designs too.” On autopilot, he added the ingredients to their batter as she mixed, chatting absent-mindedly. “Actually, it’s a plant! This time of year, mistletoe gets hung up in doorways or from lights.” While he had every intention of bemoaning his Christmas kiss-less life led thus far, blatantly ignoring that he’d never wanted to kiss anyone before, the conniving boy never got the chance.

Gasping, hands flew to shield his face as the dough hit the fan, literally and figuratively. When it was all over and the pair of them were splattered with a good helping of sugary butter, the consummate baker peered helplessly at her downtrodden expression, biting back the urge to laugh. Swiping at some of the creamy substance on her cheek carefully, he drew the slight form in for a tight hug. “Oh, darling, it’s okay. Everyone makes a mess their first time! That’s half the fun.” Fingertips rubbed consolatory circles against silken skin. “I should’ve just given you a spoon, not the mixer. It’s my fault. Will you forgive me?” A silly thought occurred to him and coffee hues glanced up hopefully. “Darn, that would’ve been a perfect moment for mistletoe. We’ll have to use our imaginations.” Thumb ran along the edge of her jawline as pert lips met their match with the same accelerated pulse that always plagued him when Opal was around. Soft and slow, they moved until he’d nearly forgotten baking altogether.

Pulling back with a barely repressed giggle, he apologized, “Sorry, I know our pretty aprons are dirty, but do you want to keep trying? I promise it gets easier.”

Right on cue, Cardinal eloped her into his arms and her heartbeat that was thumping erratically out of embarrassment soon speeds up even more just at the male’s touch. His reassurance calms the girl slightly before he felt his calloused hands meet her probably blushing flesh. At his asseration that it was in fact his fault, she shook her head. “You should forgive me! I just got too cocky and wanted to impress you by doing it really fast.” She confessed drooping her head before he spoke about the plant again. 

“Misletoe? Why?” Before the question was answered, she felt his lips on hers and smiled in the kiss. Moving along with him, she let the kiss sink into her skin suddenly the mess she made was less of a mess and more of an opportunity. When he pulled away and tried to offer a second try. She thought it over before nodding, “aprons were made to be dirty...I can’t take mine off though, of the misletoe will escalate.” She warned before looking around for a spoon to stir with instead of the machine.
