someone created a random generator that creates randomized inspirational quotes overlaid on random images in a soothing fashion and each and every image is comic gold
it’s pretty much the best thing ever and here are some of my favorites so far
so good
I’m getting this one made into a motivational poster for my home office
PLEASE GO MAKE SOME OF YOUR OWN RIGHT NOW
The first two I generated:
this jackass bot got kinda personal at first
and then it did this one and i’m like… well shit, okay bot.
okay then.
My own treasures:
That was fun.
I made paperdolls for my silkscreen final, featuring Ashley, Dahlia, and Hazel. ✂️

hi Kel!! if you could give some advice/tips to your younger and inexperienced self what would you say is the best and most efficient way to do an anatomy study so it actually sticks in your mental library? like how do you break down a study of a body part
UMM I think the most effective way to learn anatomy varies from person to person but for me, I like drawing the muscles over pictures to see how they work/ their placement in action! SO USING THE ARM as an example
omg somehow this became about arms BUT YEAH I basically do the same for other body parts and DOING THIS rly helps me visualize where what belongs where, and it also helps me with getting a 3d image! Im not sure if THE LAST PART makes sense but I also think it’s very important to understand how things are CONNECTED i.e. when you’re studying muscles, always try to see what other muscles they’re connected to + where they are on the body (do they face outward/ does that change when the body moves?) SAME FOR BODY PARTS (where arm attaches to shoulder/ where leg attaches to hip etc)
THAT’S WHAT WORKS FOR ME!! All the best to you anon 💪
The “If you’re not drawing 24/7 you aren’t working hard enough.” mentality is garbage.
When I was in college there was this ongoing competitive mindset from the teachers /students that: “If you’re not drawing all night / getting 1 - 2 hours of sleep, you’re going to fall behind.” If you’re an artist you’ve probably met this kind of thinking… I’ve heard it from so many pros / tutorials.
One of my professors said that line all the time. I loved this dude. he worked at Disney on many of my favorite movies, and my young self became absorbed in this mindset. About 3 years into my degree that professor had a stroke, and when he went to the doctor they said he actually previously had something like 10+ strokes without even knowing, brought on by stress, and that he needed to slow down.
Since then I’ve heard tons of other accounts of sickness and divorce brought on from addiction to work.
A few years later I was listening to an Animation podcast interviewing Glen Keane. He brought up that there were other animators who would live and breathe their work, never going home, barely sleeping, etc.
What shocked me was that Glen Keane said something like “I ignored this idea, and decided to go home every night to spend time with my family, because I could learn just as much from my life experiences with them.”
Anyway I just wanted to take a second after hearing a statement like this again recently and let any young artists out there know that:
There’s nothing wrong with investing plenty of time studying and drawing, but also be healthy.
I can’t agree with this enough! I spent three weeks barely sleeping in order to finish my degree show paintings, and it took me months to feel normal again after the tiredness and stress. Look after your happiness and health first and your art will definitely be better for it!
I miss having pre-RSI hands.
There was this kind of mentality in my animation program in college - at one point I said “eff it” to any more all nighters, because everyone else kept getting sick from lack of sleep. All nighters became bragging rights (had to make the best of it), but I was skeptical. I was not willing to sacrifice my health for a better grade.
Artists and creatives, take care of yourself. A life of sleep deprivation can lead to illness and early death. If your body is suffering your creative life will suffer too.

There’s a lot of reasons why I dropped out of art school, but this was a big reason. Pressure, anxiety, and sleep deprivation can also lead to mental disorders and situational depression. Don’t follow the advice to work your ass off blindly. Know what you want, what makes you feel good, what your end goals are, etc, and if you are unhappy or unhealthy in a high pressure environment, remove yourself from the situation asap or follow your own plan and do things in a way that make you feel content.
On the other hand there are people who love working long hours and having tight deadlines and flourish in a high pressure environment. And there are situations where it is worth powering through and fighting your hardest. Just make sure you know your strengths and pick the battles you think are worth getting stressed out for ; )
Wholeheartedly agree. Your health’s all you got. I refuse to pull all-nighters(did it once but never again), I’d rather get a B than compromise my health because IT IS NOT. WORTH. IT. PERIOD. Dedication to your craft does not equal stupidity. Nor does activity equal achievement.
Just wanted to add my 2 cents - I’ve always found the ‘work all day every day’ mentality a little bonkers, this is not something I have ever done in my life, and I’m extremely glad I didn’t. Mental and physical health aside, skill alone isn’t everything. Artists - never forget to have other hobbies and get into things that aren’t directly related to art and drawing, it will expand your creativity and inform your artwork in ways that can’t be achieved through simply studying and working hard all the time. ;)

someone asked about sitting poses so i drew a bunch while watching a movie YEAH
PLS USE THIS ONLY as a loose reference THE ANATOMY IS PROBABLY NOT SPOT ON cause they’re done real quick HOPE IT HELPS!
II received a few asks about this and I gave some tips on m other tumblr recently so HERE!! Hope it helps!
THESE are not absolute rules of course and it’s best to work with real refs as well to see what works for you!
practicing drawing some waltzes with a couple of random hiphop-ish poses at the end I LIKE DRAWING PEOPLE DANCING
YEAH lots of people asked about bodies and poses SO UMM THERE"S not much i can cover on full bodies idk every cahracter is different so there are noEAXCT proportions for anythign REALLY
IF YOU"RE NOT SURE WHAT POSE TO DO jsut draw a random gesture line that fits the direction of movement and sometimes u end up with really ENERGETIC POSES!! I DUNNO THIS METHOD MIGHT NOT BE FOR EVEYRONE SOBS i dont reallly know

Hi, Kel. Lately, I've started comparing myself to other artists on here, and I can't tell you how miserable I've been. I no longer look at my art with pride and instead I hate it. I don't like this feeling because I am seriously considering to stop drawing completely because how I'm hurting myself by comparing my art with others. How do you avoid that? How do I motivate myself to stay strong and not give up? So sorry for such a long ask
I think comparing yourself to other people is unavoidable, especially with the internet and sharing sites like tumblr, and I don’t necessarily think it’s a BAD thing to compare, bc that’s what helps you identify your own strengths and weaknesses as an artist.
OK:1) WHEN YOU see a piece of work online or anywhere, remember this is the product of LOTS OF TIME AND EFFORT, not just the sketches that go into this particular drawing, not just something the artist magically spits out; It’s the effort of all the years the artist has spent drawing and working on their art.
2) If you like someone’s art, THINK about why you like it, don’t just go: oh this person’s art is so much better than mine. THINK about how they got those colors and how you can incorporate that into your work. It also doesn’t hurt to ask the artist.
3) YOU HAVE TO PUT IN WORK if you want results. It doesn’t matter if you’re drawing for fun, or for school/work, IF YOU want to get better, the answer is always the same, you gotta keep on drawing.
4) HAVE PATIENCE. You will not get immediate results with art and if you continuously strive for quick results, you will only get more frustrated and upset with yourself.
5) REMEMBER that no one can draw like you. Even if someone copies your drawings line for line, it still won’t be exactly the same, SO HEY, with every drawing you’re adding something absolutely unique to the art world. You have BOTH strengths and weaknesses, so don’t be so quick to dismiss what you can do in favor of what you might not be so good at.
There will always be someone better than you and if people used that as a reason to give up on art, we will be missing out on a lot of amazing artists, SO STAY STRONG ANON, keep on drawing and I know you will get to where you want to be someday
