Orange Garden is the oldest Chinese restaurant in Chicago and also has the oldest working neon sign in the city. Opened in 1926 by Mr. W. Chan, the restaurant has been serving chop suey fare from its location at 1942 W. Irving Park since 1932, and was originally owned by members of the Chan family until the current owner, Benn Ruan’s uncle took over in 1983.
The original owner, Mr. Chan, designed the façade with an Art Deco theme, and made his restaurant look like an American diner of the era. The interior had black booths along with Chinese decor.
