Shinji has a lot of experience when it comes to breaking someone out of their shell.

He can be extremely persistent, to the point of becoming annoying, and that is usually enough to invoke some kind of reaction from the person of his interest.

Despite many people around him insisting otherwise, Shinji is a firm believer that an angry reaction is better than no reaction.

Regardless of how he chooses to present himself to the outside world, Shinji has a keen eye and uses it to pick up on all the small habits his shy object of interest might show when uncomfortable. Shinji has no issue with becoming the center of attention in any room he enters, so he'd use his loud personality to shift everyone's attention onto himself.

He has a never ending list of things to talk about, so Shinji would have no problem with filling up the quiet when his significant other froze or got too stressed out to finish the sentence.

He might spare you the awkwardness of sitting in the sudden silence, but it doesn't mean he wouldn't (tastefully) tease you about it later on. Once again, it's better to have any reaction at all, and from his experience, anger is a pretty good way of forgetting about stress.

Shinji doesn't consider himself a shy person, so his personal experience in that area is rather limited. He notices what makes you nervous and would try his best to redirect your attention away from it.

The moment he noticed you crack a smile at one of his lame jokes, he'd flood you with them.
