(they even got the fake dating trope???? what kind of fanfic crack was that ship on, damn)

tagged by @absolutelybifurious like a frog thrown in a frying pan, here is a snippet for a WIP that is close to being done as opposed to all of my other ones that have taken lives of their own!

Eddie waved goodbye and stepped out into the rain, doing an awkward half jog to where he had parked his truck, fumbling with the key fob to unlock it. Buck could only stare, wondering how many times he was going to have to watch Eddie walk away from him before his heart finally quit beating. Eddie started his truck, and before he could think about it, Buck ran out into the rain. He reached the vehicle just as Eddie began to back up, and he slammed on the brakes to avoid hitting him.  “What the hell, Buck?” Eddie shouted out his window.  “Sorry, sorry,” Buck called back, panting. He shuffled around the truck until he reached the passenger door, throwing it open and getting inside. His sweatshirt was soaked through, clinging uncomfortably to his skin, and he could feel the water dripping from his hair down the back of his neck. There was a small puddle already forming on the floor at his feet. Eddie levelled him with a confused look. “Did you want a ride?”  “Do you want to go out next Friday?” Buck asked. Eddie raised his brows. “On Valentine’s Day?” There was a strange note in his voice, and Buck wondered if Eddie already had plans. He hadn’t mentioned meeting anyone, but lately, it felt like he and Eddie hadn’t really talked about anything that was actually significant. They were always dancing around the elephant in the room—Eddie’s decision to leave, the tears they both pretended not to notice in the others eyes when they said goodbye. Eddie was back, but somehow he felt even further away, and Buck missed him.  He missed his best friend.
