Where's that comment?
Hello Tumblr!
@jubs here, today, to tell you about a feature we're building: Comments by author!
Comments (or replies) have been around for a while, but they have always been tucked away from your regular feed, and so we're working on a few ways to integrate them into the rest of our experience.
Soon, blogs will have a Comments tab alongside Posts, Likes, and Following. There, you will be able to see posts other people have been commenting on, and, more importantly, find your own comments! This was not possible before, except through notifications if someone engaged with your comment.
We're also working on a way to surface posts commented on by people you follow in your feeds. You will be able to find those in the For You tab, and later, alongside chronological posts in the Following tab.
So, how do you identify those posts in the feeds?
Replied posts will show a small preview right there in your dashboard, before you click anything.
This is not out yet, but soon! In the meantime, tell us what you think and expect from this! ☺︎
Launch Day
@jubs again!
First of all, thank you all for the feedback in the original post!
Today, we're launching the new "Comments" tab for Blog pages, and we'll be testing a For You recommendation based on comments from people you follow. The posts will have a preview of the reply, so you know why you're seeing that post.
You will be able to control the new tab visibility, and whether we should include your comments in your follower's feeds, through a new setting:
The toggle can be found on https://www.tumblr.com/settings/blog/YOUR_BLOG or in the General Settings > Replies section, on Mobile. If you have already disabled the "Share posts you like" setting, the setting will default to disabled.
The new tab is only available on Web and iOS (44.8+) for now, but the toggle is available to everyone (including on Android), so you can control what other people see on your blogs, even if you don't have the new feature yet. Don't worry, we have plans to implement the tab and posts on Android, soon!
---
We want to later include these replied posts to the Following feed as well, and we're planning on adapting the current "Include posts liked by the blogs you follow" toggle to also consider comments, in case you don't want to see shared comments from people you follow.
What do you think? As always, we appreciate your thoughts, keep 'em coming!
2026 is crazy what do you mean the current state of online social networking is so bad that i trust people more when they are on tumblr
Having an account and actually posting on tumblr after years of just being a lurker is like being a humble medieval peasant enjoying the joust matches from the sidelines, and suddenly the next day I've been drafted into Jesterdom and have to make the same crowd I've sat with laugh or the knights' horses will stomp me to death with their hooves

Please be aware of common scams! If someone reaches out to you with a scam, please report and block them. Outside of our support email and official [tumblr] accounts ONLY on [tumblr] (when in doubt, look for the same Staff Member badge that you see on this blog), Staff will never message you or reply to your posts to notify you about changes to your account. Also, [tumblr] will never ask for money besides for Premium subscriptions, domains, paid themes, and what's sold in TumblrMart.
🌟 New
You can now sort your likes from oldest to newest on web and iOS. Do you remember what your first liked post was?
You can now search for posts within Communities on web.
Redesigned blog headers on iOS — Same as Android, now following and subscribing to a blog are front and center.
Tapping "Not interested in this post" now temporarily filters that blog and their posts from recommendations. This is an additional improvement to how "Not interested in this post" works. We had announced that tapping this option will down-weight the tags from that post in your interest profile, and filter out recommended posts similar to the ones you have dismissed.
A new Media auto-play setting on web lets you choose whether GIFs and videos auto-play, independent of your system's reduced-motion preference. Find it in Settings → Dashboard.
The reblog graph explorer on web now shows at a glance which reblogs have commentary.
🛠 Fixed
We fixed an issue on web where high-resolution image thumbnails appeared noticeably degraded in quality.
We fixed an issue on iOS that was causing crashes related to image decoding, particularly with GIF-heavy content.
We fixed an issue in the iOS and Android apps where users with unverified age in mature-labeled communities couldn't see the "Leave community" button.
We fixed an issue in the iOS app where the Unblock button in the Blocked Blogs list stopped responding to taps after scrolling.
We fixed an issue where blogs previously marked as "not mature" by our team couldn't add content labels to their posts.
We fixed an issue where blocking anonymous ask senders from a sideblog would fail with an error.
We fixed an issue where users on older operating systems encountered SSL errors when clicking password reset or email verification links.
🚧 Ongoing
We're aware that some blog exports are failing. If you're affected, please file a Support Request so we can track your case.
We're investigating reports of some image thumbnails appearing pixelated in the mobile apps, despite looking fine on web.
We're investigating reports from some iOS users who are unable to view mature content despite having their settings correctly configured.
We're aware that some users are seeing an empty For You feed. We're investigating.
We're aware that some Firefox users are encountering errors when editing and publishing posts or sending messages. Sometimes, trying a second time works. We're investigating.
We're also aware that the Home and Activity notification badges are getting stuck for some Firefox users. We're investigating.
🌱 Upcoming
We're trying out a redesigned Trending tab on web, with topic blocks showing follower counts, preview posts, and related tags for each trending topic.
We're trying out a new post editor entry at the top of the dashboard on web.
As shared previously, we're building some new features for replies, including a new blog tab to see a blog's comments!
We're working on some updates to account deletion. In the future, when you delete your account, we will keep your data for 30 days. This will allow you to restore your account if you regret your decision, deleted your account by accident, or your account is hacked and deleted.
Experiencing an issue? Check for Known Issues and file a Support Request if you have something new. We'll get back to you as soon as we can!
Wanna go ad-free and get a bundle of other perks? Check out Tumblr Premium!
We’re testing something! If you leave your Tumblr Dashboard open, it will now notify you when something new has been posted by someone you’re following. Please let us know what you think!
18 years ago on Tumblr: New posts notification via @staff from May 27, 2008.
I have to say, good job to the Tumblr dev team for the recent reblog graph additions, since I don't see anyone else talking about that. It's actually kind of usable and useful now instead of a weird completely non-interactive visualization like it was a year ago. AND you don't have to manually click every little node to find out what type of post it is now, unlike a month ago.
After 19 years in development, it is now finally possible to see what conversations people are having in the reblogs of a post on tumblr.
As long as there are no deactivated accounts in the chain, I think that still breaks it.
thanks for the kind words!
deactivated accounts should be fine as of April or so. if you see cases that are still broken, happy to hear about it.
So I've now been on tumblr for 5 months. First there were The Ides, which I think I took in my stride. But then there came Neil banging out the tunes, which I, in my innocence, thought meant you all shared my passion for Neil Sedaka. Alas no. And now you're asking me to eat ramen, simply because it's going to be May? Where am I? What is this place?

being a tumblr user is fun : the staff look like they're trying their hardest to kill the platform, half of the internet thinks we're dead, the other half reblogs our posts on pinterest, and we celebrate the murder of julius caesar every year.
I understand that tumblr is THE site for elaborating on everything, but sometimes a beautifully simple and funny post gets elaborated on to such an extent that it feels like when you tell your parents a joke and they turn it into an unskippable life lesson
I love tumblr because its basically an archive and I can go back and look through my tags and change the tags in a post and I can just lie here and sort my reblogs like the well adjusted adult I am
tumblr users being generally knowledgeable about phishing attempts and scams and yet not hesitating to click various links from unknown users because they say such things as "spin the wheel to determine your alvin and the chipmunks band persona based on my favorite italian desserts" and we go "heck yeah."
Today in [tumblr] history: On May 20, 2013, Tumblr agreed to a Yahoo acquisition for $1.1 billion.

Tumblr had an update and now i can immediately see all 447 times I said, "you know, I'll just keep that to myself."
When Rent asks "How do you measure, measure a year?" no one could have imagined that one day the absolute best method would be by honouring silly little internet holidays with strangers on tumblr.com
