eyes flick to look at peter as he feels him pat his shoulder, everything felt like it was on the cusp of collapsing and suddenly most of the society saw him as some sort of villian. miles being on the loose only makes things worse, far worse than he wanted this to be. a heavy sigh leaves lips as he looks back at the screens in front of him, monitoring things, trying to find the anomaly. ❛ things are going to get worse if we don't find him, peter. do you realize that everything around us could collapse ? the existence of all worlds and timelines could cease to exist if we don't stop him. ❜ he's beyond mad, he's pissed off. shoulders tensed and hands curled into fists against the table in front of him, he tried to do things the nice way ... the easy way but no, nothing was ever simple.

it had all happened so fast, everything happening in slow motion and yet, far too fast for him to react. they'd gotten so close, were so close to ending this and then the shot had happened. he'd felt his heart both leap and stop, wide eyes as everything flashed before his eyes. they'd been in this position before. johnny had gotten hurt and he'd thought the worst. but this wasn't some shoulder shot. this was a shot to the head, a shot that in most cases, was lethal. he'd thought it was all over but the faintest hint of life still within johnny as he rushed to his side sparked hope.

it wasn't something that was guaranteed, there were a hundred different things that could go wrong and an infection could kill him but if there was hope, a chance, where they could save him, he'd bloody take it. the first two days, he'd been glued to his side, staying and sleeping at the man's bedside until price had told him they might have a lead. reluctantly, he'd pulled away, if only so he could make sure the fucker would pay for this, that they'd nail him once and for all.

more days passed and they were finally getting somewhere with the leads and recons. he'd been about to prepare for a recon himself when the news came through, eyes drifting towards his captain who silently gave him a nod, and he didn't hesitate to leave, to go to the hospital where johnny was being kept. the moment he'd walked in and saw him awake, he froze, emotion threatening to overcome him. fuck. johnny had really gotten under his skin, hadn't he?

he was quick to walk over to him when he broke from his frozen state, sitting down next to him, taking his hand in his and pressing it to masked lips. ❝ don't you ever fuckin' do that again, johnny. ❞ he ordered, a sternness behind his words but a gentleness in his eyes, of worry and relief of seeing him awake and alive.

in all the time it had taken for ghost to come to the hospital, he'd been helped to sit up, drink some water, get himself familiarized with his surroundings and adjust. over the ringing in his ears, he barely hears the sound of footsteps that come to a stop, spotting someone out of the corner of his eyes. shifting his vision to look at him, it's an instant reaction as it feels like his heart is about to leap out from his chest. the sudden spike in his heart rate evident as the machines he's hooked up to start to make sounds. he all but expects to be scolded, told he was reckless in his actions on their last mission, how he was a fool.

he's surprised as ghost sits down and grabs his hand, pressing it to masked lips. johnny almost doesn't know how to feel as he processes it all, how his heart aches to see the gentleness in ghost's eyes, to know he's gotten under his skin so deeply that his near death has affected him like this. a gentle smile pulls to lips despite the pain that he feels, he feels as though he could cry and it's not because of the pain ... no, it's because he's put ghost through so much worry — put them all through pain. ❛ i promise. ❜ and it's almost as if finally speaking to ghost is what opens the floodgates, to have him here in front of him, touching him.

the gentle smile slowly turns into a frown, tears starting to blur his sight, there's an ache in his chest like a phantom hand squeezing his heart. foolishly, johnny moves suddenly and wraps his arms around ghost, fingers curling into his clothes so hard to the point of white knuckles. he tucks his face into his neck as trembles wreck his body, a sob ripping from his chest as tears run down his face freely. ❛ i'm sorry ... i'm sorry ... ❜ voice wavering, the sudden rush of emotions hit him hard, it's overwhelming and maybe he shouldn't suddenly rush to hug ghost but he can't help it, he needs to be close, needs it to feel real. he'd have dreams like this but nothing could compare to the actual warmth of ghost, to know he's actually here.
