It’s true that Ryner still isn’t nearly as powerful as Lieral in magic and probably never will be, but he’s still evidently gotten a hold of a good chunk of Lieral’s spells, including the restraining spell that Lieral beat Lucile with in recent volumes. Maybe Lucile could’ve broken free if he’d been at his usual level of strength or maybe he couldn’t (the whole thing with ancient magic is pretty vague), but in the latter case, then that’s already one spell where Ryner has the advantage over Lucile.

(Though if we’re talking about killing, I can’t really imagine Ryner being willing to kill Lucile, considering Ferris and all. Whether that counts as an advantage or disadvantage for Ryner depends on whether you think killing or restraining Lucile would be easier/harder.)

I can’t imagine Ryner doing that either though restraining him might be easier. Do you think Lucile would be able to kill Ryner? He knows how much Ryner means to his sister so he wouldn’t want to make her unhappy right? I don’t really know what’s going on in this situation since I haven’t read the recent daiden volumes but I really do want to know. Will Ryner Reed give Ryner a lot of power in the fight?

Yes and no? Ferris/Ryner/Sion are kind of my OT3 for this series, so in that sense, yes. On the other hand, Ryner still comes across as not really interested in romance or love beyond a familial manner, even after all this time, and we're probably reaching the end soon-ish, so I have difficulty seeing anything happen between them without it being forced.

Thank you! I agree with you on Lucile and the theme about love, and Ochiden Vol. 5 is one of my favourite volumes too. Unfortunately, as far as I know, Kagami’s made no mention of Vol. 16 just yet (since Owari no Seraph is under the radar right now, I wouldn’t be surprised if he’s been mostly focusing on that series).

And yeah, I don’t think Lucile really means the threats he gives her. It feels like in part him keeping her away and in part just… the way their family interacts (even after their reconcilation, while not to the same degree, he still acts a little dismissive of her well-being despite everyone knowing better).

He’s dismissive because he wants her to stay away from him and fear him so he doesn’t taint her purity. I think it’s his way of trying to protect her and I guess old habits die hard.

That it means light. I love that since he always described as being of the deepest darkness yet his name means light. Maybe there is some light in him after all since Ferris’s light and innocence is what attracted him to her at first. I’m so glad I found someone I can discuss about Lucile and denyuuden with (my friend has only watched the anime and isn’t that big a fan). :D

Yeah, the demons' influence do seem to be responsible for a large part of Lucile's creepier personality, since we didn't really see that in 'Relx' (and, in recent volumes, he's been acting slightly more normal, compared to his usual ~mysterious~ attitude--he's hilariously exasperated around Ryner and Ferris now that neither of them is intimidated by him anymore).

It is really interesting, when you think about it that way! On the reverse end, just as he saw Ferris as his light, you could also see him as being Ferris's light, despite being 'darkness', since he was her saviour and is essentially a martyr for his siblings.

Plus, in the sequel, IIRC, it's mentioned that Asruld has pretty much lost to Sion, and it looks to be the Sion we know who's running things (esp. since he was probably always more ruthless than he initially seemed, aha--the prequel does suggest that he was kind of aware from the start that things were going to end up this way). So it's Sion who intends to devour Ryner, albeit trying to delay having to for as long as possible, hence the whole sending Ryner to prison thing.
