Get unplugged and Reconnect

http://unplugtivity.com/ We love technology, and are thankful for it. It’s advances have benefited, improved and even changed lives for the better. However there seems to be a negative side to it, one that makes us sad and almost creates a longing for simpler days before technology so inundated our world. I started noticing an absence of human interaction. I could walk through a store and virtually talk to no one, and maybe not even look at one other human, definitely not exchange glances, or heaven forbid, smiles. I wonder how many people are walking around these days with the ability to constantly “connect” to anyone anywhere yet feel alone and unnoticed. Just because you have Facebook friends to spare and Twitter followers for days, doesn't mean that you are known, appreciated, or seen. We miss the days when hanging out was where you make plans to see someone more than a day before and then you look forward to that time. You set a time and you stick to it, and if the other person is late, you don’t worry, you wait, sitting at the coffee shop or wherever. You look out the window and you enjoy the scenery, you people watch, you notice others and wonder about their lives. You may even talk to someone, and smile or help someone as you wait. You might make someone’s day with your encouragement or listening ear. When your friend shows up, because you know they will, you sit and talk and look at each other and you hear them…without looking at your phones and half listening, or scrolling through your news feed to see what your “friends” are doing…because your real friend is sitting right in front of you.addicted to smart phones board games Technology and social media are great, however we have come to a place in society were people fail to interact face to face in real life. Everywhere you go you see people on their smart phone s or tablets or laptops interacting through cyber space. Two people can go out to dinner together and spend half the time looking at their phones. It’s no wonder why some bar have banned cell phones. Admittedly I love these devices as much as anyone but there needs to be a balance. Technology will never replace real life.
