honestly one of my favorite things about fanfic is when you can see the canon influences come out in really subtle ways. like a canon line thats mentioned once as a throwaway is suddenly the entire premise for a fic or it influences the characterization or something. its just so cool to see how people weave their ideas around a source material, especially if its not a detail i'd thought about before
I love when The Character has a breakdown. Are they gonna go catatonic? Start crying hysterically and can't stop? Get so mad they could blow up a mountain? No matter what it's always fantastic.

So the other day I went and saw the tour production of The Outsiders the Musical and it is SO WHUMPY!!!!! I've never read the book before but god damn I absolutely am now. Just ordered it from the library. Never saw the movie either. This musical is my first introduction to the story and I'm in love.
This is such a whumpy musical! So much beating and angst and WOW! And the way they do the lighting and choreography for the whump was so cool!!!
And I am COMPLETELY obsessed with Darrel "Darry" Curtis. Like, deeply obsessed. Of course I am. It's an older brother who has to give up everything to take care of his younger brothers and who eventually snaps and it's emotional and OF COURSE I FELL FOR DARRY!!!
I've been listening to his two songs on repeat all week. "Runs in the Family" and "Throwing in the Towel". The music for this show is so freaking good. Just...just listen to this song. Trust me. It's perfect. I love older brother figures who think they're fucking up and aren't good enough and think "you'd be best without [him]" UHG IT'S SO GOOD!!
And can I just say that I am VERY VERY excited to see that apparently I'm not the only one obessed with Darry whump? Because I've spent the last two days devouring so many amazing fanfics where Darry is whumped to hell and back and....you guys. I am having the best time. I haven't had a hyperfixation is so long. Who knew Darry Curtis would become my next whumpee to fixate on 🤣!
