[yabai] cendre: one palette computed from a wood fire, across all 27 surfaces
Everything on screen is one palette, and none of it was picked by eye.
ember is the coals, Planck's law at 1300 K. brass is the sodium D line at 589 nm, the yellow flare when salt hits flame. sap and frost are two C2 Swan bands at 563 and 474 nm, the green and blue low in a flame. cinder is the CaOH band at 622 nm. The ground is wood ash at hue 43°. Every wavelength goes through the CIE 1931 colour matching functions into OKLCH, so only lightness and chroma are mine, because a spectral line sits far outside sRGB and has to be brought into gamut somehow.
The part that actually matters for a rice: one Lua table generates all of it. 27 surfaces at three background depths, so nvim, ghostty, tmux, btop, lazygit, starship, bat, delta, yazi and obsidian cannot drift apart. The test suite re-renders every committed file and fails if one has. Same reason the 42 contrast ratios in the docs are asserted rather than written down.
:CendreBackground soft switches the ground at runtime, no restart, pigments unchanged.

nvim -l derive.lua prints what each source computes to, if you want to check the arithmetic. It uses the published analytic fit to the CIE curves rather than the tabulated data, which is worth up to 1.8° of hue.
