Still owned by descendants of the ancient and well-known Serbelloni family, Villa Sola Cabiati is one of the most iconic private villas in Italy’s Lombardy region of Lake Como. The opulent, ochre-hued and ice blue shaded mansion was built in the 1500s, however, unbeknownst to most it is the relics that lie hidden within that are truly impressive. The villa’s 18th-century Serbelloni dukes had penchant for the valuable, so much so that had acquired an incredible collection of antiquities - most notable being Neopoleon’s ‘chapeau’, the diminutive leader’s infamous cap. During World World II, after obtaining the cap while entertaining the visiting emperor in Milan, they carted it over to their summer residence on the Italian Lakes – along with the revolutionary’s bed and wife Josèphine’s clothes – where to this day all remain in the attic, largely untouched. With its museum’s worth of paintings, frescoes, porcelains, tapestries, and furnishings on exhibit to all, it says something of the villa’s all-round grandness and discrete opulence that these extremely priceless artefacts remain out of sight… except to elite guests. #meandmybentley (at Villa Sola Cabiati)
