she  gave  a  one-shouldered  shrug,  willing  to  entertain  the  prospect  for  the  sake  of  her  own  amusement,  but  not  caring  to  commit  to  it.  ❝ oh, perhaps, ❞  she  said  airily,  tapping  immaculate  fingernails  against  the  cut-crystal  of  her  glass.  in  all  honesty,  sabine  rather  liked  the  idea  of  working  somewhere  where  her  husband  wasn't  the  doorman,  but  there  would  certainly  be  drawbacks  as  well.  for a start, she  preferred  her  bosses  a  little  less  solemn,  less  dour.  ❝ it  would  depend  on  the  salary,  of  course,  and  on  the  perks.  the  diamond  room  pays  its  entertainers  quite  handsomely  —  i  trust  you'd  do  the  same? ❞

☆ﾟ*·ﾟexploring was part of allyson's nature. she'd very easily find herself in a place where she shouldn't be. and tonight was one of those nights. the blonde had donned one of her favorite flowery dresses and followed people into what was called the diamond room. it was beautiful in here, but mostly because there were people that loved what they did. as she saw a stage, allyson couldn't help but be excited. where to sit, she had no idea. when she heard someone's voice, allyson jumped, squealing lightly. "oh, sorry! uhm... yeah! i followed someone in here and it looked fun." tilting her head to the side, allyson's hands went over her mouth. "wait, what does usual mean? am i going to get splashed or something? should i not be in here?" now allyson felt bad for being somewhere she possibly shouldn't have.

splashed?  for  a  moment,  sabine's  much-practiced smile  flickered,  replaced  by  a  look  of  true  bemusement.  her  first  thought  was  that  there  was  a  joke  here  she  hadn't  quite  understood  ( some  bit  of  nuance  she'd  missed,  perhaps,  never  quite  as  fluent  in  english  as  she  was  in  her  native  tongue )  but  the  girl  looked  perfectly  sincere.  not  even  a  hint  of  humour  there, it seemed.  ❝ not  at  all, ❞  she  said  swiftly,  not  wanting  to  discourage  someone who might be a  ( paying )  customer.  she  took  the  girl's  elbow,  steering  her  gently  to  the  side  and  towards  the  back  tables,  out  of  the  way  of  the  bustling  waiters  and  patrons.  ❝ don't fret,  anyone  is  welcome  at  the  diamond  room,  so  long  as  they  have  a  love  of  music  and  a  wish  to  enjoy  themselves. ❞

if  sabine's  smile  had  been  a  little  artificial  before,  it  wasn't  any  longer.  already,  he'd  won  a  laugh  from  her  —  not  the  flirtatious  giggle  she  so  often  gave  patrons  at  the  diamond  room,  making  hollow  small-talk  with  them  between  performances,  but  a  true  and  genuine  peal  of  laughter.  pleased  and  surprised  in  equal  measure.  she'd  never  been  able  to  resist  a  good  story  well-told,  and  if  she  heard  it  from  the  lips  of  a  strapping  young  stranger?  why, even  better.   ❝  there,  m'sieur,  you  see?  ❞ she  teased,  leaning  in  conspiratorially  close,  the  silvery  swirls  of  makeup  on  her  cheeks  glimmering  in  the  candlelight.  tonight,  she  was  meant  to  be  a  swan,  all  in  white silks.  ❝  i  knew  it  from  the  moment  i  set  eyes  on  you  —  you  have  a  musician's  hands.  i  took  one  look  and  thought:  the  flute.  ❞  and  very  fine  hands  they  were,  too,  she  thought.  just  as  eager  and  expressive  as  the  man  himself,  carving  such  fascinating  shapes  out  of  the  air.  ❝  but  tell  me,  where  would  i  go  if  i  wished  to  hear  you  play?  do you  perform?  ❞
