If you want to see all the crazy antics the Arthurian knights got into watch the Arthur's knights video from overly sarcastic productions.
thanks for the tip !
His Majesty:
 â Uhh, â
Pfft. Oh boy. Better fill him in before he goes on a wild goose chase.
â Nahh. Iâm just pullinâ your tail, Lance. Itâs a joke! Back on my world some people greeteach other by saying âWhatâs up, dog?â. But thâ joke is tâ trick people into asking that question. When I go âI canât believe yâdonât have updog hereâ, and yârespond with âWhatâsupdog?â â Thatâs the punchline ! â
   ...
âYou address one another as âdogsâ ? That seems quite inappropriate. I swear to you, my lord, no one shall disrespect you in this fashion here. I will not tolerate it.â
lancelot most certainly knows how to clean, sharpen and otherwise care for his blade. especially being raised as a ward who didnât really belong with the family who took him in and therefore had to provide for himself as much as possible as to not bring them dishonor.
that said how funny would it be for him to throw all that out the window with arondight and flex on everyone because ayy this sacred blade aint never going dull no matter what
His Majesty:
 Snorts. â Oh, yâknow. Updog ?? â
âIs it a breed of dog native to your world, my lord ? Surely we can find you one similar enough to be a satisfactory companion.â

â I canât believe you guys donât have updog here. â
   âWhat is an âupdogâ ?â
man itâs really great to see this AU develop between so many people, thereâs something so fascinating to me about how people re-interpret these characters in medieval/fantasy/arthurian (whichever they go for) settings and working out how similar or different the dynamics between them turn out to be.
something @gwalchmciââ pointed out in their bio for gawain really caught my attention; namely the fact that gawain would be the brunt force among the knight of the round table and doesnât have as much of a mind for tactics as maybe the other two do. it really got me wondering what each of them brings to the table (hehe) individually. they all share in the honor of knighthood, the devotion for their kingdom and obviously phenomenal fighting abilities, but what is it that differentiates them and makes them a compatible unit when put together ?
gawain being the hard-hitter of the trio very much makes sense, and i think percival by comparison would logically be the brains, with her being based on blaze who is initially a monarch herself. of course anyone who writes her is welcome to their own interpretation, but percival being the most highborn of the three and having the makings of a sovereign by herself is a given to me. which leaves lancelot. you could say heâs simply somewhere between the two, but i like to think he puts forth his own unique contribution.
one interesting fact that sticks out to me with them associating shadow with lancelot is that lancelot is said to be not only the mightiest of the round table but also the closest to king arthur.
coincidentally (or perhaps not), shadow is the only one between himself, blaze and knuckles who never finds himself in a leadership position in non-storybook stories. i think itâs the one character trait he and lancelot share the most; theyâre both most comfortable working under someone they believe in than relying on their own sets of morals.
far be it from me to impose this on anyone writing gawain or percival or arthur/sonic, but objectively i like to assume lancelot has the strongest bond with the king if only because he doesnât have as much of a sense of identity as the other two (who define themselves with specific traits respectively) and therefore is able to devote more of himself to his liege without compromising any aspect of his person. he has the kingâs confidence and lends it to his fellow knights of the round table just as they lend him their strength and intellect.
In lieu of an engagement ring, I think a much more functional promise item would be a custom forged sword.
ă Sir Mordred ă:
â I misunderstand. What cause would there be to spread such word? â the words are spoken curiously, new green eyes focusing on the knightâs visor. Mordredâs expression dampens, lowers to that of further seriousness. It is of no interest of the knight to sully the reputation of his superior â after all, he says nothing but good words about each of his comrades. â A path of offense is one I take no pride, Ser Lancelot; thou are most respected in the kingdomâs eyes and mine own.  â
Mordred, however, tilts his head.
â Which doth lead me to question, prithee⌠â he starts, as something does not match up with him. The Knights of the Round Table are a group most sacred, most united. And yet, Lancelot hides his scars as if they are not one. â âŚWhy do you hide such wounds? Why do you wear them alone, when you have earned them with all that is right? What shame is there to bear? â
âThe title of knight does no bear the same weight everywhere,â he explains. Thereâs a hint of apology to his voice, mostly filtered through his helm. âSome wear it with pretense rather than honor, and would take great pleasure in tarnishing anotherâs name. I have yet to see which breed you are.â If he deems his mistrust justified, he knows thereâs a blunt edge to his honesty, so he quickly adds, âMeaning no offense.âÂ
The conversation does render him uneasy, and his freshly cladded hand finds the handle of Arondight despite himself. An instinctive gesture for an instinctive reaction, as he immediately feels more secure with the blade in his grasp. âI thank you for your kind words.â A formality. Flattery is so often empty. âBut do not presume to know I have earned them with all that is right. These scars tell a story I have no interest in sharing.â His grip tightens, distant screams in his ears, bloody hands before his eyes. He turns to look at Mordred once more. âAnd prying is quite insolent.â

"Bloody 'ell, mate! Normally I don't get knocked out first thing!"
âNormally a Knight of the Round Table would have no business at the dock markets.â Heâs missed the bow, but secured the quiver full of arrows, as well as the large bag of stolen goods. Another day, another failure on the patrollersâ end to keep petty thieves from helping themselves, apparently. âIt seems we are both out of luck today.â Granted, this visibly experienced rustler simply wasnât prepared for someone who would move in so quickly on a target, and perhaps the local guards usually on duty have grown to turn a blind eye to lowborn robbery. Clearly this stroke of bad luck would ruin the thiefâs day more than Lancelotâs.
He waits for the other to shake off the dizziness of tanking such a direct and unexpected blow, staring down at him unimpressed with the prize and ammunition well in hand. âThis is a generous loot you collected,â he points out, nodding at the size of the bag. âSurely you were not planning to keep it all to yourself.â The intervention is garnering attention from vendors and villagers alike, but the knightâs heed is focused on his culprit. âPerhaps if you tell me of the friends you planned to share it with, there is yet hope you will not spend the night in a dungeon.â
also may as well point this out sooner than later. lancelotâs honorific is in fact âserâ and not âsirâ. i know canonly satbk played into the sir trend but i personally prefer the alternative. âserâ is used specifically to refer to knights hierarchically (king > prince > lord > knight // your majesty > your highness > my lord > ser - although in lancelotâs case his being a knight of the round table would arguably put him above lords ), and it differentiates knight honorifics from the one modernly used to politely address (gentle)men in general. itâs also gender neutral, which is a personal preference both to myself and lancelot. phonetically it doesnât change much, but iâd be really appreciative to anyone whoâll refer to my muse here as Ser Lancelot rather than Sir Lancelot
Knights are just inherently, immensely sexy... it's all about the devotion, the ideals, the cool weapons and armor AND the muscles to wield them...
âNormally I don't get knocked out first thing."
// sentence starters
Having to split duties with other Knights of the Round Table, itâs difficult to remember the last time he had a sparring partner worth the name. Little did he expect on this day he would be facing his own liege, though, and even less so that their match would end so abruptly. A clever attempt at disarming him left Lancelot grabbing the sharp edge of his blade and swinging the blunt end directly into the side of the otherâs head.Â
Help was called for right away, but the king came to before anyone had time to get here, drawing a sigh of relief from his knight, then kneeling at his side with more tension in his body than when he was fighting.
âThey do say there is a first time for everything,â he huffs out, his disbelief hopefully unnoticed on his mostly concealed face if not in his voice. He speaks from adrenaline rushing out more so than to taunt, so he offers a hand to help the other up, fearing he might otherwise disrespect. âIt was well fought, my lord.â Short-lived, but well fought. âThough perhaps now youâll reconsider the benefits of armor ?âŚâ
@ironicfatcâ // sentence starters
It earns a distasteful scoff, for Lancelot had not noticed there was an onlooker. He re-clasps the piece of armor around his wrist, promptly hiding the ugly half-faded gash he was inspecting when he thought no one else would see. âMaybe so.â Part of him believes it; part of him knows he ought to wear the many injuries that didnât kill him as badges of honor. The rest of him, on the other hand, is mortified at the idea that anyone in Camelot would know he bears them at all.
All the same, his sense of responsibility overtakes. He casts a stern stare at the other through his visor - if he draws shame from having his scars witnessed, he doesnât show it. âYet thereâs no pride to draw from it.â He refuses to look down, though the temptation to lower his head as he speaks is noticeable. Instead, he merely avoids further eye contact, an easy enough task with his helmet down. âSo keep it to yourself, yes ? Gossip is not befitting of a knight.â

also quick disclaimer before i go ahead and get onto those asks; i read everything i can find that people have written for this particular verse, but on the slim chances that i misinterpret something and step on your toes, please donât hesitate to let me know so i can adjust my response(s) ! things can get mixed up when so many people hop in on a concept where there isnât that much canon to go off of, but the last thing i want is to go against what people intend for their muse(s) - so please just let me know if i get something wrong. thank you !
