The familiar feel of a fresh cup of coffee felt good in his hand and was almost a quarter of the way to relaxing his dire need for caffeine. Okay, maybe he was a bit of an addictā¦ He smiled as best he could to front the awkward tension he could feel building in is chest.Ā
āYeah, I erm- Iāve never been here before.ā Iām sure iād remember an encounter like this if I hadā¦Ā āBut thank you for the advice, iāll make sure to take it easy on this one.ā Mika placed the plastic rim to his lip, wisps of steam drifting delicately from the hole. He didnāt sip however, simply found comfort in the heat and deep rich smell.Ā
That comfort was short lived when he thought then and there that heād drop his drinkā¦ He blinked, confused as to how something like this was possible, surely the odds of him meeting a person who looked exactly like him and had the same name was astonishingly slimā¦ And yetā¦
āMikaelaā¦?ā Heād heard that rightā¦Ā āMikaela.ā He responded still lost in the statistics of it all.Ā āI mean, my name. My name is alsoā¦ Mikaela.ā
āHow is thisā¦ā He mumbled, placing the cup back to lip only to the drink from habit and burn is tongue. Mika hissed ad winced in pain but swallowed the small sip regardless. Awkwardly, he laughed off his pain.Ā āSorry, I should really let you get back to workā¦ā And I really should be getting to mine... and yet he was too intrigued. To just leave like thisā¦
āYeah, Mikaela.ā The stranger seemed to hitch on it a few seconds; Mika wondered if he thought it was a girlās name. It wouldnāt be the first or the last time one of his customers had a good laugh about that one. This guy didnāt strike him as the sort, at least to the extent that he could say from knowing the guy for all of four minutes and counting.Ā
āThatās...ā Impossible. Ridiculous. So astronomically unlikely that this had to be some kind of fever dream.Ā āThatās quite the strange coincidence.ā Mikaela finally said instead.Ā āIāve seen the odd Mikaela around but never...āĀ
They were both just dancing around it at this point; he might as well just say it.Ā
āNever really anyone who looked like me.āĀ
Mikaela would like to know that himself. It seemed a little tooĀ impossible for his tastes. It would be one thing if there was the odd resemblance but this was like staring down a reflection with a caffeine addiction.Ā
āItās fine.ā Mikaela glanced around as if to make the point that there wasnāt anyone else in the store.Ā āMorning rush is passed, and there probably wonāt be any more until the high school hits their lunch break in a couple hours. But donāt let me keep you if you have somewhere to be.ā
This was just too weird. No one would believe him if he even tried to tell them. Mikaela knew next to nothing about his birth parents, had never even bothered to learn. It was the first time that it crossed his mind that maybe somehow he had a sibling. But a sibling thatĀ identical? Doubt and the desire for an easy explanation went to war in his mind.Ā
āI admit, Iām kind of curious what else we might have in common. If you want to come back after my shift later today, we could talk. Iāll even make you another one of those americanos. If not, donāt worry about it, though,ā he quickly amended. That was probably the weirdest thing this other Mikaela had ever been asked.Ā
