(so
uhm
hiatus. aye. Y’all’ve noticed that I’ve been completely gone, an’Â
well
unsure if it’s gonna get any better.
sorry)
Ran was walking through the sunflowers, acting as if she were in a rush. Mostly because she is. There were some tears in the barrier near the Garden of the Sun, but it was Ran's duty to go and fix them. "And maybe I'll get done before she notices I'm here."
No one gets through the Garden of the Sun without its owner noticing. Especially someone of significant power, which the sunflowers not only notice, but completely chatter about to one another. And word of this would quickly reach Yuuka. Kitsune at the western edge of the territory.
“Probably to fix that oddity,” Yuuka mumbled to herself as she looked in the direction her flowers faced, sitting atop her house with her wings wrapped around her.
Let’s go say, chat with her. More interesting than sitting up around here.
Yuuka groaned and spread the massive leaves before standing and bolting into the sky, figuring that she’d fly over Ran and reach the border before the shikigami.
“Hmmm...”
Yuuka raised her head just high enough to look out the window.
Snow. Everywhere.
“No.”
Wrapping a ratty blanket that looked freshly dug out of the dirt around her form, she sunk back into her chair. There was going to be snow in her room, causing damage to the interior. Just perfect.

Character Redesign? Character redesign. Come watch for foolish beasts an’ wonderful music!
Merry Christmas, you get some dude's arm!
“... Arms? Christmas?”
“At least the arms look fresh...” She gave them a look-over, then halfheartedly nibbled on one.
Tasty.
*Steals Yuuka's ascot*
“Why? Why would you ever?”

happy birthday me /o/)
A Fight of Flowers
Yuuka continued to glare at the other her, shifting her body to make up for the change in balance caused by the lack of a pair of arms. “I don’t leave things like this unfinished, especially if I’m told to just leave it be. And even less so if the person telling me to leave it be is a bitch like you!” With that shout, she swung her body to aim a roundhouse kick at the other her’s face, trying to give her a good taste of her shoe.
“Even if I can’t rip your face off, I’ll just crush your throat into paste, you ugly damn bitch!” Kick after kick, with a handful of headbutts thrown in for good measure, it was obvious she wasn’t going down without a fight, arms or no arms. If anything, she might be more dangerous because she was getting unpredictable now.
“You are awfully chatty for the fact that you’re essentially talking to yourself. Do you hate yourself? Because that’s all I can guess.” Yuuka kept on smiling, even as she had to move to avoid the shoe coming for her teeth. “You hate yourself so much that even I, a perverted twist of your own appearance, am the focus of your hatred!” Once again, Yuuka bared her teeth, and once again she had to move to avoid the kick that came to her face.
“That makes this fight all the better. You see, I hate myself too. And you look how I did years ago. And more than anything, I want to beat my past self with a thorny two-by-four.”
The headbutt connected with her face. Yuuka flew backwards and skipped on the ground once with a groan, then immediately the vines of her body connected with the ground as she got to her feet. As the other Kazami came for her, black vines erupted from the ground and attempted to ensnare the other her’s ankles and legs.
“But short of time travel, you’ll have to do! I’ll see how well you fare with death!”

Yuuka-chan~
Parasol snaps shut and points to the grayface.
Mere minutes later, the air hums as a Spark flies.
“Never speak to me like that again.”
Just A Simple Tutoring Session
undyingsunflower:
It was winter, and the coming of the first snow signaled that it was time for her departure from the land of Gensokyo. If only briefly. Sure, she had stayed for a while, if only to witness what happened in her absence. To visit a few old friends.
However, the snow-cloaked land was cold, quiet, and undeniably boring. There was nothing the youkai disliked more than boredom.
Wind whistled by her ears as she descended into the depths that held her mansion, the place that she called home. The place she had been formed. Past the Lake of Blood, into the Darkness below. Â Above the cracked red stone she flew, with all the certainty of one who had traveled this path many times before. She did not choose to return here every winter, but sometimes she felt the urge to vanish, to return to her mansion, to the world where dreams floated in starry space.
As the ground melted away below her, giving way to a void of stars, she slowed. Yuuka had almost arrived at her destination.
There they were. The Gates to Mugenkan, the border between dream and reality. She saw, before them, a familiar shinigami.
Yuuka touched down upon the glass surface in this black space that marked the gates. Her boots, now just damp, made barely a sound on the sturdy floor, and with deft hands she closed her parasol, allowing it to hang from her wrist.
Wordlessly, the Flower Master of the Four Seasons strode over to her gatekeeper, the golden-haired girl with her hat pulled over her eyes, and crouched before Elly. Her hand outstretched, her gloved fingers grasped and then lifted the brim of the hat, revealing the face of the one wearing it.
Softly, just loud enough for Elly to hear, she murmured,
“Boo.”
It had not even occurred to Elly that she was tired enough to start falling asleep. In fact, she had no idea if she had fully fallen asleep, or was just on the brink of doing so. Either way, she just made a minor annoyed face when she felt the hat get moved off her face. Must be Kurumi being a bother again.
But the smell about the air certainly wasn’t Kurumi, who permanently smelled of blood. No, this was... floral. Floral?
Her eyes shot open wide just as a voice so quietly reached her ears, gentle as a breeze. And right there was Yuuka, smiling down at her. That didn’t help her startled self. Elly quickly sat up and scrambled to get her hat back on her head.
“Ah, ah! Yuuka, I wasn’t expecting you to be back!” Her mouth felt like cotton in her embarrassment. She looked around slightly, then got to her feet, smoothing out her dress and adjusting her collar. “I was, uhm, just practicing out here while on duty and I just, uhm...” She closed her mouth and glanced to the ground.
“Sorry.” Elly smiled lopsidedly, though she slightly hid it with the tips of her fingers.

@dual-spark
Ooooh... another! One, two, three...
With each mental count, metal whistled through the air. Four, five, six. A downswing, twist, diagonal upswing. The weapon was a scythe, a massive unwieldy thing that always seemed to belong more in a field of wheat than in the hands of a fighter. But despite its bulk it was swung around deftly, as if it weighed nothing and was as small as a shortsword.
And its wielder panted as she completed another round with a jab, another twist, and a one-handed horizontal swipe at neck level. A routine that ended with a killing blow, even though she never wanted to kill anybody.
That’s why I’m here, right? No, that’s why I’m in this mess.
With a sigh, Elly returned her scythe to its curled state and sat on the ground in a manner that was little more than a controlled fall. She then laid backwards on to the glass that made up the entryway to the Mugenkan. Closing her eyes, the shinigami let out another sigh, raising a hand to her forehead and running her fingers through her bangs. She needed to keep training, but it felt as if it was getting nowhere. And how could she do her duty without being able to defeat even the most simple of opponents?
Her other hand tapped on the glass, which responded to her touch with a gentle ringing. No, she could defeat simple opponents. She knew she could! It was just the ones that always got to her were so much stronger... and those she lived with were so much stronger.
Now she just dragged her hat over her face and let out a complaining groan. She’d get back to her training after a short break.
Light this Cold, Dark Night
“Ngh…” The small thing cringed and whimpered as her body was moved. Eventually, though, the unconscious firefly would manage to find some semblance of comfort in Yuuka’s arms, but her breathing was still heavy and labored… Blood dripped to the ground from her various wounds as entire measures of flesh were cut into by feral claws and teeth.Â
Hopefully Yuuka could manage some manner of first aid, or else the bug might not be long for the world.Â
Yuuka looked down at the mass in her arms, blood getting onto her clothes as it was everywhere on the smaller youkai. She’d die like this, surely. If I take her to anyone, they’d believe this was my doing. Yuuka let this thought simmer in her mind, even though another part of her tried to convince her that it was her own paranoia.
She shook her head, then kept walking through the Garden at an increased speed. Eventually Yuuka got to her house and carefully got her door open, going inside and looking around in the dim. She had clean rags, a few medicinal herbs that ought to still work despite a few years in the cabinet. Without putting Wriggle down the flower youkai proceeded to gather these things before departing from her house once again.
These wounds needed to be cleaned, wrapped. Yuuka knew she couldn’t do that at her house, with no running water and a basin that was dry as bones. So she made the trip south, out of her Garden and to the floodplains, eventually reaching the tributary that separated her own location and the southern Nameless Hill. There, Yuuka placed Wriggle on the dirt and untied the now-bloodied blanket from herself. She laid it out on the ground and rolled the bug youkai onto it.
Why go through all this effort? Why not let the youkai die? If she was beaten so badly by those ferals, then she had no reason to continue existing. Yuuka ground her teeth as she tore strips from excess blanket. She didn’t know. She was just going on autopilot, illuminated by nothing but the stars and moon and the scent of blood still hot on her nose.
Light this Cold, Dark Night
“Come on, boss! Isn’t the bitch de–”Â
The trio stopped as they heard that voice, not really believing who it was until they looked towards her. “Shit, scatter!” The one growled, obviously recognizing the flower youkai. It scrambled off of its victim and ran on all fours away from the scene, the other two hissing and growling as they followed suit - not seeming keen to try and fight over… well, a beat down.Â
As the three left, the victim in question was finally able to be properly seen. Bloody and bruised, the insect youkai herself, Wriggle, was left lying on the ground, breathing heavily as she laid unconscious. Seems that, after all, Yuuka was right… but was this because Wriggle visited Yuuka, or because Yuuka turned him away?
Yuuka bared her teeth at the youkai as they scattered. She had mind to follow them, to attack and at least taste their fear. But they were gone too soon, and she didn’t have the energy to give chase.
So instead she looked to the ground, at the mass that the ferals were attacking. A small youkai... Green hair. That’s Wriggle.
“... Nightbug?” Yuuka’s tone was still quiet in its weariness, but it lost its roughness. She nudged the smaller youkai with her foot, then crouched down next to her when she didn’t respond. “What a mess...” Yuuka scratched the bridge of her nose as she thought to herself. Should she leave her here? No, other ferals would tear her to bits.
She was going to regret this. Endless, endless regret. Those words echoed in her mind as she grabbed Wriggle and scooped her up, carrying her in her arms like an unwieldy sack of rice. No, the girl weighed less.
At least nothing would attack within the Garden. And that was where she headed back to, walking with the weight of a bloodied youkai in her arms and the weight of her self-loathing on her shoulders.

Light this Cold, Dark Night
“Where’s the rest of the food?!” One of the savage beasts growled out, once more tearing his already blood-soaked claws into flesh, drawing out another shrill scream from his green-haired victim. Two others were already tearing in to their basket of disappointment, finding only honey and bread among the dirtied cloths.Â
“Oh come ooooon, “ One whined, tossing aside the basket and sinking its sharp teeth into the cold, stale bread - only to spit it out shortly after with a growl, “No fucking meat?! Nothing human, nothing steer, not even a fucking rabbit?!” It raged, standing up and delivering a kick to the victim, causing the shrill screaming to stop with only a gasp of breath and coughing. Coughing that was silenced as the feral atop the figure closed its hands around the small girl’s throat, squeezing the life from her.Â
“Come on, you little insect! What’s the matter with you?! Why can’t you have anything useful!” He shouted, slamming the girl’s head against the ground several times in time with his words.Â
Yuuka could hear the commotion before she could see it. Animalistic roaring of beastial youkai, overshadowing any noise from whatever it is they were attacking. The smell of blood then came to her. It made the world bright, made the moonlight glisten off the leaves and petals and grass. It made the night noises of the Forest of Magic clear, hooting of owls and howling of various creatures. For a moment, the cold was not so biting.
Once she crossed the grassy passage between the two areas, Yuuka realized why the smell of the blood was so strange. This was no human that these ferals were attacking.
It was another youkai.
“Hey.” Yuuka’s voice was a mere growl. She wasn’t upset that this youkai, bloodied and beaten on the ground, was at the mercy of these fools. No. She was mad that this wasn’t human. Yuuka could eat other youkai, but it wasn’t what she needed to survive. But even so, they were still going to pay for this deception.
“You have but a mere second to get out of here.” Her eyes, black like coal, glistened red, glowing like the flame she kept toying with. “Or you will all be food for my Garden.”
Light this Cold, Dark Night
@void-of-muses
The sun rose, circled overhead, and fell without a stir of movement from within the house that Yuuka called her own. She was in fact within it: proven by the anxious movements of her sunflowers, as they realized late in the day that the spirit - no, youkai, Yukari had made sure of that - had not done any of her daily patrols. Yet if any of their murmurings of worry carried through to their master, she didn’t make it known.
Yuuka had gone into her storage room and fished out a blanket that she had honestly forgotten about. It was tattered and dirty, but a blanket nonetheless. She now had it wrapped around her as she sat at her table, a candle in front of her as she flicked it to life with a spark of magic and extinguished it with her blackened fingers. Her nerves screamed at the pain, but she didn’t react to it. Over and over, she did this. Light the fire, put out the fire. Light it, put it out. Give it life, kill it.
Ending it. How easy it was when it was just a flame.
She hadn’t realized that it was nighttime until she put the candle flame out again and everything became enveloped in darkness. She blinked a few times, ignoring the pain on her fingertips and in her abdomen. The flower being was exhausted, but she knew she wasn’t going to sleep.
A chorus of voices finally made their way through to her ears. Feral youkai are attacking something just outside the Garden at the edge of the Forest. The sunflowers continued to repeat this information to Yuuka, even though it was not something she usually had them report.
But if feral youkai were attacking, then that must’ve meant they had a human. And human meant food. Pain wracked her insides again, digging into her bones and making her curl up slightly. The flowers must’ve known this.
I’ll die if I don’t go get something. She thought this, then wondered how spiteful it would be if she died just to prove a point to Yukari. No, she didn’t survive all this time and defy death once just to spite someone that mattered so little to her.
With a groan, she rose to her feet. It was like lifting lead sacks, but she stood up straight. After a thought, the youkai tied the blanket around herself into a makeshift shawl. It didn’t do much to keep the cold off her, but it was enough. Another chiming from her sunflowers, and she was out of the house and slipping through her Garden with the speed of certainty, moving only with the promise of human blood to keep her going.
