Not Too Bad Of a Night
~Scifell
Sci had been waiting for at least 10 minutes later than he thought he would when he finally heard a knock at his door. He hurried to answer it and was pleased to see that it was Edge, who was dressed very nicely.
“Sorry I'm late, I had some trouble getting ready for our date.”
Sci chuckled, “It's fine Edge, at least you got here.”
“I guess you're right, anyways, we need to hurry so we don't miss the movie.”
“Yeah, let's go.”
They had then left for the movie theater, Edge trying to keep a partially quick pace, making sure he wasn't leaving Sci behind or practically dragging him along. When they got there Edge asked for two tickets to see a movie Sci had wanted to see for a while.
“Sorry, but we could not play the movie today due to technical difficulties,” the ticket counter attendant told them.
“What technical difficulties exactly?” Edge asked in a slightly annoyed tone.
“The projector that was going to be used malfunctioned. But, there are other movies that'll be played soon.”
“Like?”
“Well, tonight we're playing mainly horror movies for the next hour.”
Edge let out a frustrated groan, “Well that's just abso-fucking-lutely great,” he spoke in a sarcastic tone, “Looks like we'll either have to make up the time we have left to either watch a horror movie, or improvise. Which would you rather do Sci?”
“I'd rather find a way to improvise, I'm not in a horror movie mood tonight. But your opinion matters too, so which would you rather do?”
“I'm fine with improvising.”
“Wait, what would we do?”
Edge thought for a minute, “How about we go down to the local ice skating rink?”
“Neither of us know how to skate, Edge.”
“Well we could learn.”
“In two hours?”
“We could always go again another time to learn some more.”
“But do either of is have the time?”
“Oh yeah, I forgot about that.”
Sci was silent for a moment, “We can try and see if we can learn to skate in what little time we have.”
“Alrighty,” Edge gently took Sci by the hand and walked with him to the ice skating rink.
While walking they had passed by a few things, a busy intersection, a large fountain filled with coins tossed by wishers, kids playing with the autumn leaves in the local park, and a beautiful plaza. When they got there they paid, went in and put some ice skates on.
“We're probably gonna fall over a whole lot,” Sci said, already struggling with balance in the rink.
“That's the spirit!” Edge joked, also struggling with balance and eventually slipping.
They were both silent for a second and then started laughing until they hurt. Once they were done laughing they helped each other up and stayed along the side of the rink holding hands and helping one another keep balance. After a while, they didn't get much better, but they were good enough to glide along to the gate so they could exit. They both wanted to stay a bit longer, but if they wanted to get the restaurant on time and go look around town before it got too dark.
The town was big and full of life so many friendly faces and nice places. Edge got some roasted hazelnuts for him and Sci, once they were done eating their hazelnuts and looking at all the amazing things it was finally done for them to go to the restaurant.
Once they got there they were informed that the place was full and so they'd have to wait. What one hour was seemed like forever, Sci had to wake Edge up almost every 5 minutes. By the time they finally got a table it was an hour and a half until closing hour. So they got the meals they thought would be the quickest to make. What you really thought nothing would go wrong? Well you see, while they were waiting a waiter tried and accidentally spilled champagne on Sci and when they got their food, it was cold!
They would've, or will Edge would've, complained, but they didn't have time, they only had 45 minutes to eat. That's when it hit Edge, Sci is a slow eater. So once he finished it was closing time. Sci and Edge left and as they left, Edge felt a drop on his head. He looked up and a couple raindrops hit his face.
“Great. Just fucking great,” Edge said. First the movie, then he could feel his ass from falling on it stop many times at the ice rink, next Sci and he walked until their feet were sore and would blister if of course, they weren't skeletons. Then they had to wait, Sci’s shirt was still damp with champagne, their dinner was cold, now fucking this! He couldn't help but think he ruined Sci's night with all the terrible things that happened. If he had just waited for next weekend then things wouldn't have been so bad.
All Edge could do is sigh, and remove his suit jacket he wore to the date and hold it over him and Sci so they wouldn't be totally drenched by the time they got to Sci's house. While Edge was holding the suit jacket over them Sci hailed a taxi so they wouldn't have to walk home in the rain with sore feet. They got in the taxi, and went to Sci's place.
Once they got there they went inside. Sci went into his room to change into some warm, dry clothes. As soon as Sci was done getting dressed he gave Edge a warm change of clothes consisting of an oversized university sweatshirt, and some pajama pants. Edge went to the bathroom and changed, when he came out Sci had pulled out a quart of vanilla ice cream for them to share. Edge sat down as Sci put on a cute little movie and sat down with Edge after grabbing the ice cream and getting a spoonful.
“Hey Sci, uh, I'm sorry for ruining our date,” Edge said.
“Why do you say that,” Sci asked.
“I fucked everything up. First the movie then the-” he was cut off my Sci feeding him a spoonful of ice cream.
“Hush, you didn't ruin anything, it was just a bit of bad luck, happens to the best of us.”
Edge sighed and rested his head in Sci’s lap, and before falling asleep he thought to himself, I guess he's right, tonight wasn't too bad..
