A hesitant update
I had my braces changed yesterday for *hopefully* the final time before my op. Next time I go they’ll take moulds of my mouth and check that when my too jaw is moved forward, it will sit comfortably on my lower jaw. However if that’s not the case I’ll need a bit more reshuffling of teeth before we can finalise operation details and dates! I’m keeping a pma and hoping that this will be the last wire I have, although I’m hesitant because when it comes to my jaw, things rarely go according to plan..

Not having to wake up 10 minutes earlier just so you've got enough time to clean your teeth

One of my friend's sisters has recently had her orthognathic surgery and you can already see how much of a difference it's made to not only her appearance, but her general outlook on life. It's crazy, but it reaffirms just how valuable this experience will be. If all goes to plan, around this time next year I should be having my braces removed for the final time (and will have done my final a-level exams). I can't even begin to imagine how good that will feel!!

I don't really know how to start this at all.
I guess start with the basics - I'm female, I'm 17 and I'm British.
I've had an underbite since I was born. (That may seem obvious, but some people can develop an underbite as they grow. Others grow out of theirs, like my sister. Not bitter at all.)
I'm hoping to have my corrective surgery around Christmas of this year. At the moment it just looks like I'll be having my top jaw corrected rather than my bottom/both.
The braces I have now are actually my 3rd set. I had my first set, a removable upper brace when I was 10 for 2 years, then a year break. Then I had a fixed upper brace for 2 years, then another year break. I now have fixed braces on upper and lower teeth and I've had them since August last year.
I'm not sure what I'm aiming to achieve by doing this, but I just thought it was a good idea to track my progress, share it with others, and also have something to look back on once it's all finally over.
(Also I'm procrastinating from revising Russian History.)
