The complete abolition of police forces can only come about with the abolition of the state itself, as the state is fundamentally made up of 'special bodies of armed people exerting the will of a class'. Fundamentally, this can't happen until both capitalism has been overthrown globally and the revolution has progressed to such a degree that the state becomes superfluous

Additionally, the character of the police of a socialist state is different from that of a capitalist state. The capitalist police, as an arm of the bourgeois state, serve the bourgeoisie. They serve to exercise bourgeois rule over other classes, such as the proletariat. The socialist police, as an arm of the proletarian state, serve the proletariat. They serve to exercise proletarian rule over other classes, such as the bourgeoisie. The difference here is that of class character, and more broadly, between minority rule and majority rule. Socialist police forces, along with socialist states and red armies, serve the vast majority of people, against the exploiters. Capitalist police serve the exploiters against the vast majority of people. Cops in capitalist countries aren't just randomly evil - they're enforcing oppressive systems for the profit and benefit of a ruling class at the expense of the people.

As an example, socialist militaries were near-universally conceived as not possessing a rank structure, thus removing the apparently superfluous division between officers and troops, which appeared a holdover from feudal armies of conscripted peasants led by aristocrats. It had worked fine, before establishing the state, in the context of guerrilla warfare, so socialist states generally started off, as with the idea of the militia, by implementing this. It was only once this concept was met with reality, once the socialist state's military had to engage in actual combat, that these practices were found to not be in line with reality. As it turned out, the institution of military rank was a useful one. In actual combat, in an organised, regular army engaging in complex, positional warfare, having a clear chain of command is important. When the division commander and the headquarters element are all destroyed, it needs to be strictly clear who has unambiguous command of the remaining forces. Ideological, political ideas about the concept of military rank needed to bow to the material, practical realities about it.

Similarly, the complete replacement of the state's bodies of armed men by, instead, the armament of the whole people, was revealed to be impractical once socialist states were actually developed. During the period of revolution, peoples' militias are an important force, and immediately after, they remained the mainstay of the state. The peoples' militias are the fundamental basis of a socialist guerrilla warfare strategy, in whatever specific form it takes. However, it becomes immediately clear, once an actual state is being built, that impromptu police forces can no longer function to the degree necessary. Once national-scale judiciary systems are established, it's no longer possible for peoples' courts alone to cut it - though they do remain the basic layer from which the rest is built. While, on the small-scale, this sort of system works, it's ultimately not up to the task unless integrated into an actual organised system of courts. The militia needs to be organised and regularised. Firefighting, for example, was the responsibility of the militia - it's plainly clear that that duty cannot be left unorganised. Fundamentally, the regularisation and organisation of these groups under the proletarian state doesn't change their character, as the proletarian state is, itself, a body representing the whole proletariat.

Certainly, the idea that 'the working people will administer matters themselves' is one used to delineate between the lower stage, of socialism, and the higher stage, of socialism, along with the disillusion of the state. Perhaps it's simply that these ideas of the whole masses of armed people are valid only in a more developed socialism - but that's speculation. What's important is this: they don't work now; and the fact that, before any actual experience was gathered, people thought it would work, doesn't change anything. Marxism is not a dogma.

It's surreal to witness how easily some people can ignore the urgent situation in Gaza. They’re watching it unfold live: children and families in Gaza bombed, erased from their homes, but they still act like nothing’s happening. History will look back on this time, and it won't be forgiving. It won’t only remember those who supported the bombings; it will also remember those who sat back, shrugged, and scrolled past without a second thought. It will remember that we, as Palestinians, reached out for help but were met with indifference, silence, and passive inaction. There’s no difference between the Zionists and those who ignor our messages from Gaza. There’s no difference between the Zionists and those who witness our pain without acting. You are witnessing ethnic cleansing, and your reaction is ...... nothing. Blank faces, silence, a refusal to acknowledge the truth unfolding right in front of you. Are you really unable to spare $10, $15 or 20$ to save lives in Gaza? Are you too lazy to respond with even a word of support? Are we asking too much of your time?? Is 5 minutes of your time worth more than our lives in Gaza?? What are you going to tell your children, partner or loved ones when they ask what you did while all this was happening?? “Oh, I ignored their messages.” How will you justify staying silent when they flip through the history books in the future? A simple question for sharks: How do you think your followers will react when they realize you might turn a blind eye in their moments of need? What kind of influencer or artist chooses to ignore the pain of others? It’s been a year. More than 42,000 Palestinian civilians have been killed, and over 100,000 injured. Isn’t that enough? Or is the number still too small for you to care? Should we talk about the 10,000 missing or the countless unjustly imprisoned? Maybe you need to see every building in Gaza reduced to rubble before it finally “counts” for you. Do you feel a flicker of empathy? Of humanity? Or are you still waiting for the “right” moment to speak up and take action? History won’t just remember the silence. It will remember even you who ignored this post when your help and action were needed. My family in Gaza urgently needs your help, so please help us and donate now!

I met Amal - @amlljom9 - when she came onto Tumblr searching for help, and she happened to find my blog. She's super sweet, very kind, and has far more patience than anyone should ever have to have under the conditions she is suffering.

She's a pharmacist, and even opened her own pharmacy in Gaza. Due to the genocide, she lost it all. Her family members are sick due to varying illnesses that have only been aggravated by long term exposure and psychological stress, including her sister in law Sarah, who had to have a caesarean with no anesthesia, and cannot feed her newborn. I cannot fathom the pain and the stress that would cause. Amal is certainly mourning it.

She is doing her best to fundraise, but she has not received much notice so far. Only $183 CAD is raised of her $20,000 goal. Her campaign is vetted by @gaza-evacuation-funds !
