KURTIS TRENT - THE LAST MEMBER OF LUX VERITATIS AND DEMON HUNTER
And here is my redesign and character sheet for Kurtis. Honestly, I had a lot of fun making it and I really liked some of the ideas.
I always imagined the scar on Kurtis' face as more than just a scar â a seal left behind from his connection to the Lux Veritatis.
Under normal circumstances it looks completely ordinary, but the more he draws on his powers, the more the scar begins to crack, letting golden light escape. At its final stage, it fully opens and takes the shape of an eye.
Because despite operating from the shadows, the Lux Veritatis has always associated itself with light, knighthood, and sacred duty. I didn't want Kurtis to feel like a pure assassin. His own eyes never change during this transformation; instead, a completely new "Eye of Lux" opens across his cheekbone.
Living Knight Armor â Lux Veritatis Vessel
Originally, I wasn't planning to give Kurtis an armor form at all.
My first idea leaned more toward a shadowy, spiritual transformation, but it started feeling too close to Amanda Evert's aesthetic. That pushed me in another direction. Since the Lux Veritatis has such strong ties to knightly orders and ancient traditions, the idea of a living suit of armor suddenly made perfect sense.
It ended up looking like a Souls boss.
It almost gives him the feeling of a Sorcerer / Fallen Paladin DnD class. The black veins spreading across his body represent the beginning of the transformation, while the Eye of Lux and the Chirugai keep the design rooted in the "holy warrior" side of the Lux Veritatis.
Even though Kurtis is an occult / psychic character, I always liked the idea that somewhere underneath all of that darkness, he's still a knight.
The Masters of the Lux Veritatis
During the later stages of his transformation, hooded figures begin appearing behind him, almost blending into his own shadow. These are the former Masters of the Lux Veritatis. They don't really do anything.
To me, they symbolize the burden Kurtis can never truly escape. Even if he wants to move on, his connection to the Lux Veritatis â and the demons drawn to him because of it â will always remain part of him.
I honestly didn't overthink Kurtis' outfit.
Occult aesthetics = black clothing.
Military background = cargo pants.
Wandering troublemaker = leather jacket.
The part I obsessed over was his physical appearance. Because of his past, I wanted him to look tired. Because of his powers, I wanted him to look slightly unsettling. And because the "psychic guy = lean silhouette" combination has always worked for me, I kept him tall, fit, slim, and just a little intimidating. I still love his old grunge look. But a lot of time has passed.
I didn't draw these illustrations myself. They were created together with AI.
I also want to give credit to Murti Schofield for Kurtis' incredible original character design and to Konrad Majewski for his amazing 3D model. Both made perfect Kurtis for us.
I'd genuinely love to see Kurtis return in a future Tomb Raider game. To me, he's always felt like a character with unfinished potential.
Some of the information on the character sheet might also be inaccurate because the AI and I had a few... disagreements. For example, I could never convince it that Kurtis is 183 cm tall. đ
But that's okay.
This was simply something I made for fun, and if I didn't share it, I probably would've exploded.
