‘Who are the Proclaimers?’ you may ask

first off, how dare you? second of all, they’re a scottish rock duo who were most prominent in the 80s and 90s. you might have heard of a little song called ‘i’m gonna be (500 miles)’ perhaps?

i understand - and agree - that the soundtrack should primarily be by female and queer artists, but for a story that will be set largely in scotland and with scottish characters surely we can get some scots in there too!

What songs do i think would work?

I Met You

a song about your life changing for the better after meeting someone

the lyrics

“Thought the book was written / Thought the game had ended / Thought the song was sung and I could never sing another / Thought my faith was misplaced / Thought my back was broken / Broken by a weight that I was never fit to carry / I thought I knew this city / Thought I knew all about it / And then one night I went to Morningside and you were waiting”

can be interpreted as thinking you’ll never find love a second time aka francesca’s main plot

is also a banger

i’m gonna be (500 miles)

basically the quintessential scottish song

is also a love song about wanting to be the equal in every way to your partner

for example: “When I wake up, well, I know I'm gonna be / I'm gonna be the man who wakes up next to you / When I go out, yeah, I know I'm gonna be / I'm gonna be the man who goes along with you”

would also work for a potential season 5 plot

francesca runs off to scotland after kissing michaela, who in turn follows after her

could be a good soundtrack to that *wink wink*

sunshine on leith

a song about grief but also love

can be used both for michaela and francesca about john

and about each other

“While I'm worth my room on this earth/ I will be with you / While the Chief, puts sunshine on Leith / I'll thank Him for His work / And your birth and my birth

would work really well as a string quartet

Life With You

basically the reason i made this post

similar to ‘i met you’ it is about some walking into your life and changing everything

but this song is more about wanting to spend your life devoted to them

the opening lyrics are quite reminiscent of francesca is season 3 and 4

for example: “i viewed solitude as a joy. / but since i met you i’m distraught / you wandered in and now i’m caught / i never thought i would see / someone so truly good / someone who’s so everything i’m not”

obviously francesca is not yet aware of her feelings but the polar opposites between them and the complete shift in her demeanour when meeting michaela fits very well

in conclusion

all of these songs would fit in quite easily to the soundtrack - and they’re great songs!
