"And then the meeting was suddenly interrupted by a very loud noise that startled the board members." If the previous sentence isn't a train wreck to you, it's perhaps time to analyze your own writing. The sentence should hopefully drive in this useful point: the best writing out there isn't determined by what happens, but rather by word choice. Nothing takes readers out of the moment like one poorly worded sentence. To help your writing, we compiled a brief list of words to avoid along with our reasonings and a few suggestions to help you get around some messy phrasing. Oh, and if you were wondering, a decent way to rephrase the starting sentence would be "A deafening noise crashed through the otherwise quiet meeting, agitating the typically lethargic board members." ...read more, click on the link...
Just last week, I picked up a new hobby. The first class was fun though many times we questioned our Seamstress for all the unexplainable formulas. Yes, we use formulas for sewing. :)

Language Crimes to watch out for!
Credit information: Dictionary.com I couldnât agree more to this! :)
1. Fewer: Confusions of the terms âfewerâ and âlessâ set off alarms in the heads of language enthusiasts. Fewer is to be used when discussing countable things like for example, âfewer ingredients, dollars and people⌠or puppies and kitties.â While âlessâ generally used for singular mass nouns like for example, âless salt, money, honesty or love.â
2. A_lot: âAlotâ is a frequent misspelling of âA lotâ.
3. Literally: *Goodness gracious* while employing this metaphorical usage might make many casual language loversâ ears bleed, descriptivists lexicographers will hail you as a language innovatorâŚ*roll eyes* Just be aware it might be perfectly fine to some but it will sound horrible to others if you use âliterallyâ figuratively.
4. Anyways: While it is commonly used in speech and writing, âAnywaysâ is non standard. Always drop the âsâ and opt for the standard âAnywayâ to impress the language fanatics in your social networks. In a world of 140 letter tweets, that one saved character is valuable real estate.
5. Irregardless: this is considered non standard because of the 2 negative elements. Ir- and -less. So, use Regardless to keep your grammar loving friends at bay!
Enjoy!
